A cellphone video emerged this weekend of a California cop appearing to brutally beat a woman for no discernible reason on the side of a highway.
CBS Los Angeles reports that the video, filmed on Tuesday evening, depicts a California Highway Patrol officer angrily crossing the La Brea Freeway, yanking a barefooted woman down, and punching her more than 11 times in the face.
As of now, the CHP says that it is investigating the incident, but said in a statement that since there is an ongoing investigation, it would be premature to comment on this specific video segment without reviewing the entire incident. They also took the woman, who lacked identification, to a hospital for a physical and mental evaluation once she was in custody.
Heres an interview with the man who filmed the attack, courtesy of CNN:

no id?........looks like we are in Germany circa 1939............
The woman was taken for evaluation once she was in custody. Why in custody? For taking a beating?
I’m not so sure this is a brutality case.
Could be, but the cop to my eyes appears to be totally pulling his punches, and I don’t believe the woman ended up injured.
Just saying. Cops (can) go overboard in Southern Cal, but I don’t see it this time.
(just my opinion, mind you)
For bruising the cops knuckles withb her face.................
She was obviously resisting arrest, so Officer ProtectAndServe was justified in his beatdown. And after all, he had to get home safe and sound, that day.
Will the union support this beating?
That revenue collector should not be on top of a little female. That’s COWARDLY!
He’s a ()ussy!
Copspeak for "FU, we're the police"
Except she was running on the freeway.
Running on a freeway?
“Freeways aren’t free”
The important thing, as usual, is that this brave police officer returned safely home
so he could beat hell out of his 110 lb. wife and kick the chit out of his cringing dog.
You have to be crazy to want a beating!
So what you are saying is that it is perfectly fine for the cops to give someone a beating for walking on the side of a state highway?
Well I don’t know what the highways are around where you live, but around here (LA) they are not meant for pedestrians.
At all.
This happened in LA I believe. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen someone walking on the freeways in LA.
The fact that she was there, barefoot, at all certainly meant to the cop that he was dealing with someone who was either on drugs or mentally not all there, it would seem.
Now I agree the cop sort of gave it to her, but I myself (just speaking for myself here) really didn’t see brutality in his actions.
That may be because I’ve gotten used to some stuff, but it didn’t seem like it to me.
Just saying.
“Running on a freeway?”
Sometimes ya just gotta beat some sense into people. Its so much quicker, easier and more satisfying than simply holding them down and cuffing them then taking them to jail to let the Judge decide their punishment.
It is against the law to walk onto a freeway including a big fine.
Moreover, the plains clothes Highway Patrol officer that shows up to help indicates this might have been a stake out where prostitutes were soliciting customers on freeway offramps. When the woman evaded the officers instructions and went out onto the freeway she put the officer’s life in jeopardy of being hit by a car.
Whether the force was excessive to subdue the person resisting arrest is another issue. But an isolated video doesn’t mean much. What was the context in which this woman refuses to cooperate with instructions of the officer not to go out onto the freeway and evade arrest? And is it a woman? We don’t know do we?
I have no choice: I now support the off-shoring of all American jobs directly to China. Just to get back at you for saying the above.
I think what he’s saying is you gotta beat a woman once in awhile to knock some sense into her. Its for her own safety. Its not brutality if you are just teaching her a lesson. I bet she stays off that freeway from now on.
I shoulda known I would catch some flack.
He was a (bit) rough, but I didn’t see him really whaling on her.
He seemed to me, to be completely pulling his punches, just trying to get her under control quickly.
Considering she was running barefoot on a major metropolitan freeway, would seem to mean she was unpredictable.
I am not defending the guy, except to a degree. He seemed to me anyway, to be doing his job.
Again though this is just one opinion. Thanks for your comment.
