Understandably, his wife says they don't want to talk about it.
Wandering around wearing headphones can be fatal. I'm thinking of the California woman killed by a train while jogging with headphones.

That’s one of my biggest concerns when I take my JRT out in the woods with me. He’s fearless and will fight with all comers but the big Michigan Coyotes are more than he could handle.
At his size a good sized coon is like fighting a grizzly bear. He’s been wounded fighting coons a couple of times but he’s an optimist.

Headphones or no headphones, I do believe that if you can’t hear your dog being eaten alive, you can certainly see it happening. Since your dog is on the leash as required.
Oh wait....

Especially in a place like Alaska, where the wildlife would like nothing better than to snack on you. Even in an urban area, the (human) wildlife is not much safer.

Had to have his tunes, huh? We lived in Alaska for a long time and the wilderness is just a few paces from most homes.

I never understood wearing headphones while hiking. The whole idea is to enjoy the place.

What a moron — going out in nature and shutting out at least a third of the experience. I live near a forest with hiking trails. To me, being under the tree canopy is like being in a cathedral. I am always disgusted when people sashay down the trails crashing leaves and yakking at the top of their lungs. They scare away any of the small wildlife who stay still and merely watch you attentively when a human passes by “Indian-style” — as silently as possible.

I'm thinking of the California woman killed by a train while jogging with headphones. Wearing headphones causes you not to notice you are walking on railroad tracks?
