You know when this mentality started? It started with the acceptance of “Sentencing Guidelines” in criminal cases. The Feds started it first. I remember a general shift to “all crimes ARE created equal.” No they are not. And while this is obviously no crime, the facts of every situation need to be considered. The “if you can’t do the time don’t do the crime” meme is idiotic. We certainly considered every case on it’s facts when I prosecuted.

Now that the attorney general Eric Holder’s justice department is looking for parity in punishing black kids versus white kids in the schools, lots of pseudocrimes will be attributed to white kids to get the numbers even.

All of the overreactions by school administrators really have little to do with gun violence, or fear of gun violence. Clearly, paper guns cannot hurt anyone, nor can pop tart guns.
Instead, it is specifically directed to change a child’s perception of a gun as something so dangerous, it can not even be thought about. It is the demonization of anything affilated with the idea of a gun. That is why this is being specifically directed at very young children, who cannot even understand the consequences which are looming if they even think about making a paper gun. It is about teaching compliance to a single way of thinking.
