The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.
No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

My daughter was all: "Dad, grow cucumbers, we'll eat them, I promise" earlier in the year. Now? I can cukes or feed them back into the compost pile. Yes, they do eat a few, but not what 3 plants can produce.

Well, no luck on the spiralizer, noodler, or whatever makes zoodles, tromboodles, or cuzoodles! I’ll have to keep looking.
Surprise in the garden this morning .... my largest “baby T” was in full bloom! Evidently, the female version of the T flower looks like a baby squash for a good while and then it blooms! I was wondering how I ended up with a baby T and had not seen it bloom before ... today was the day! The other blooms I’ve seen previously have been on a regular stem and just fallen off - male blooms, I guess. I saw an article on T’s that said the male blooms are very popular at farmer’s markets with gourmet food types, but are rare/difficult to find.
Here’s something you might find ‘interesting’ ..... cucuzza blooms, even if not bright and showy, must be ‘sweet’ because they evidently make great honey! ( http://www.cucuzzasquash.com/honey.htm )
Since you have tons of bees, I hope they pollinated it today. I've been saving male pollen from my T's, and Cucuzzi on q-tips. Now that they are over the top of the cattle panel, I have to stand on an 8 foot ladder for some.
I'm glad we get so excited about our squash. I swear I'm treating them like my pets.

Thinking the same thing, just the other day :-) Vegetable gardening has never been so exciting! I find myself visiting the garden multiple times a day, just to see what is going on, primarily with the squash.
The squash blooms were totally open early (gorgeous ‘good morning’ greeting for me) and within a couple of hours (3 or 4), they were closed and drooping. Hope the suddenly abundant honey bees found them.
PS - just changed my tag line ... saw the quote & it sums up what we’re talking about.
Going to check on house and plants this Saturday. Think a number of the large containers with food plants will come here.
Won $500 at casino last night. The Oklahoma casino parking lots are full of Texas cars/trucks. Texas money goes to Oklahoma.
There is massive building in the Dallas/Plano/Frisco/Denton/McKinney regions - many roads being widened and houses/apts. being built every where.
We went to Lowes for something yesterday and I bought Sweet Basil, Spicy Globe Basil, Greek Basil, Rosemary, and Parsley plants. There are many lovely flower plants here but no food plants. There is large piece of ground for my container garden, plus plenty of room for in the ground blueberry plants and the whole area has solid fence around it so it isn't seen from the outside. Prissy can't get out so has a large yard to run around (large compared to garden in Conroe).
Next week we take the bus house to an RV park at that casino so I can experience living in the bus house. This is the most fun/pleasant time I've had in years.
While the temp. is getting into the lower 90s, it is dry air compared to Conroe so the heat here doesn't bother me. Others here think it is hot. I've checked and this county is solid Republican for their representatives in state and national government. At some time, I'll let the Republican County Chairman know I'm here. I've briefly met a Catholic priest at a Catholic Church in this area.
I am 80 and Bob is 79 and we don't plan to stop living and sit in a rocking chair the rest of our lives.

Congratulations, Good to hear things are going so good for you two.
Just letting everybody know I’m still around. With my work schedule, most of my interneting is done while waiting for my sleepy pills to kick in at night, and it’s usually best if I don’t type then! I’ve been reading from work, but i can’t log in there, so I have been keepi9ng up with everything.
Weekends have been busier than workdays lately, so I haven’t had time even then.
There’s good news, though. I got my voice back after being mute for 3 years!!!!!!
I saw a specialist in Cleveland who found that my voicebox was out of alighnment. He wrestled it back in place, and it works!!!!!!
Sleepy pills are kicking in, I better stop now.
That is wonderful news. I didn't even know voice boxes could go out of alignment.
It never hurts to have a few jars of dill pickles or some sort of pickle relish put up.
