SAN ANTONIO -- Did the Heat just lose to the Spurs, or to the heat?
What a shame there would be any doubt about that. What an outrageous embarrassment for the NBA, on its greatest stage, that a game-long lack of air-conditioning in San Antonio’s arena would leave fans sweating and, far worse, affect so crucial a game.
This night was about the heat in all its forms.
The literal kind draped itself over the arena here like a sopping blanket due to an electrical problem that powered the AC, sending temperatures above 90 degrees.
The Heat that starts with a capital letter withered in the conditions, squandering a fourth-quarter lead to the Spurs and losing, 110-95, in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.
And now the figurative kind of heat, the bad kind, the kind that weighs heavy, is on Miami.
It was a bizarre night, an unfortunate one for this city and for the league, not just for Miami.
The lack of air-conditioning in the arena left the atmosphere almost unbearably hot, spectators fanning themselves with programs as if outdoors in the Sahara at noon. Luckily one team is from a tropical climate where humidity is king, and the other resides in what feels like northern Mexico, so hot here the eggs fry while still in the chicken.

I think that if you are good at anything, you should be able to play in any conditions. The crying on TV this morning over this was extreme and ridiculous. I am especially not sympathetic to their “hard life” with “D Day” Anniversary going on.
Some 30 years ago, the NBA championship was between the Boston Celtics and the LA Lakers. There was a game in Boston on a 95 degree day where the air conditioning couldn’t keep up, and it was a sweaty endurance contest that day, too.
Both teams had to play in the hot conditions including the Spurs who have a bunch of older guys on their team, one would think it would really affect them just as much. There’s no excuse.
Go Spurs, Beat the Trayvons.
Even CBS AM newscasters were wondering how heat can sideline one team but not the other.
Think of all the CO2 emissions that were not spent during the game. Utopia!
On a competitive note, San Antonia should just wait a few weeks to fix that air conditioning.
If you can’t stand the heat get outta the gym.
Why were LaBron’s legs the only ones effected? Everyone else was able to play to the end. Inquiring minds want to know…
Until a few years ago, Duke played in an unairconditioned arena, as did those who labored in Madison Square Garden. Are our athletes so spoiled today that they can’t play in less than perfect conditions?
Another 3rd World moment for America. Lights out at the Super Bowl. No A/C for an NBA Final.

The Heat got beat by the heat....LOL! ...read that somewhere else thought it was witty !
LeBron is well known (by all but these twits it seems) as a Powerade spokesman.
Now, if they were to sign over LeBron as a spokesman from Powerade it would be sweet.
It does seem as though his cramps are very common.
I don’t think there was any air conditioning in the old Garden. If the Bruins went deep into the playoffs on humid days you couldn’t see the ice through the fog generated from the ice.
Another time on a humid day a Celtic game had to be postponed because the ice was “sweating” through the parquet and players were slipping all over the floor.
I do miss the old Garden though.

I’m no physics expert, but common sense tells me it was the same temperature for BOTH teams.
The old MSG was even grungier....No AC..in the 60's there would always be an NBA double header..and back then you could smoke inside....we'd get the high school GO admissions for 50 cents...sit in the nosebleed seats up way behind one of the baskets...By the 2nd half of the 2nd game..there as such a thick cloud of cigarette smoke hanging over the court..you couldn't see the basket at the other end..you'd hear a yell..then a few second later the players would appear out of the smoke heading in our direction..

Last I checked, both teams had to play in the same conditions. Lebron cramped up, which is a sign of dehydration. Not fun and definitely can’t play through that. Tony Parker and Tim Duncan made it through. That’s why you play the game.
I don’t see it as an embarrassment. It can happen to any large facility at any time. The game was interesting and crisp. High level basketball. I enjoyed every second of it. Too bad it wasn’t Thunder vs Heat.
