As the first step in closing Gitmo (if senior, most dangerous commanders can be released, then why not others?) and as a “confidence building” measure for reaching a deal with the Taliban.
Getting Bergdahl (whatever his name) back was just a cover. Obama thought everyone would be so overwhelmed with joy about getting the “last American prisoner” back they would overlook release of the Taliban commanders.
I am sure that is the reason, but there are not enough choices, such as Obama is an anti American Muslim traitor. I would have selected that one.

True. I saw a different thread that claimed the city cancelled the welcome home Bowe party, claiming something like, they could not safely handle the number of people that were expected. They continue to insult our intelligence.

Obama has promised to close Gitmo. He tried & failed to get them tried & jailed in the USA. He's been releasing as many low level inmates as quietly as possible.
But the hard core al_Queda & Taleban would be left as the biggest problem. Americans would be outraged if he simply let them go.
None of the choices are even close to the right answer.
Why?
For the same reason that Obama insisted on recruiting muslim "astronauts" to go to the space station to pretend that the MMMs are technically equal to anyone, and they should "feel good" about themselves.
Until the MMM "astronaut" discovered that the mission commander was a woman, and he couldn't take orders...
