We have land in the Ozarks and city folk dump their dogs in the country all the time. It’s especially bad at the end of college and university semesters. When they chase and attack livestock they get shot. Many more get run over. But most starve. we rescued a number of them and found them homes.
We let Archie sleep with us and she gets the lions share of treats. But she doesn’t hang around with us outside of the bedroom.
Our house is very competitive, with six cats, notably Prince Tomas. Tomas is a rescued lilac Mekong Bobtail (sort of like a Siamese, but cuter with a stub tail) and is a young, curious and aggressive male. He loves his people, but likes to play with cat-siblings too much for their comfort. A lot of them spend their time outside during the day to avoid him. I keep him on my lap when I work from home to give them a rest.
You’re a good man. I applaud your thinking ahead for their well being in case of an emergency.
What a nice way to say murder.
Because we live in the country we get strays that have been let off all the time, we either keep them, call friends who might want a dog or take them to the pound.
My son has one now that we think someone actually threw out a window as they were driving. She seems to be healing okay.
When my friend and neighbor got a divorce, we ended up taking their choc. lab from them when he was on the way to the pound. He has turned into a real sweetie and as goofy as the day is long. We had his littermate from 12 weeks old and it only seemed fitting that we save this dog from the death that he were to surely meet if he went to the pound. Yes, two labs is a chore but they are so happy and goofy dogs and our kids love them more than I ever imagined.
Folks,
Don’t go to the animal shelter if you feel like the folks on this thread. When my daughter volunteered there, the dogs were desperate to get out of “jail”. Barking like crazy while wagging their tails at warp 8. “Take me ! Take me !” Friendly as all get out - but desperate.
I had to leave. I couldn’t take care of 40 dogs when I already had a dog and two cats.
People who abandon pets are scum of the earth.
Every dog I've had has been homeless and not the best candidate for an easy placement. A dog chooses me, not the other way around.
My current dog is the best companion. Because he spent part of his life as an orphan, he learned to behave perfectly if he wanted to stay in someone's house. He knows how to greet people and charm them. On our many walks, he's the ultimate exercise equipment. He's leashed, but has a mind of his own and sets the pace, and has to be held back from breaking lose to enjoy a chipmunk (or whatever critter) dinner.
4 dogs 4 cats Last one found in a dumpster by my son. They all live and play on > 10 acres. Mostly wooded. The cats hang by the house. The big dogs play in the woods
A friend married a man who would torture and kill cats for fun. The marriage didn’t work - no surprise!
We will be going on a trip, and our three cats are going to a total-care facility where they will be pampered and get plenty of attention,
play, and distractions. One cat is elderly and not as healthy as he once was. They will watch his diet and his “output” carefully and treat
him accordingly with the proper food and medication that he needs. The other two are much younger and will take things in stride.
It’s expensive, but worth it to us.
You got that right.
Anyone who tortures any animal for fun is not someone to marry or even befriend. That behavior usually escalates. I’m glad your friend got away from the monster.
You are ~truly~ good people.
I don’t even let my dogs out in the yard alone.
Everybody is chipped, tattooed and I hover over them like a lunatic all the time.
I never go on vacation because I won’t let anybody else watch them.
I would go stark staring mad if I didn’t know where they were for even a minute.
Doing something like this, I can’t even begin to imagine.
It’s too horrible.
We didn't. Just assume if you clicked on it, you wanted to.
We found one of the best dogs I ever owned out near our cabin. someone just dropped him off. Our neighbors found him and thought we had accidently left him. The next weekend we wee out there they asked us and we said he wasn’t ours but we would take him if they didn’t want him. We had him almost 16 years before he passed.
My wife has threatened me with great bodily harm if I adopt another dog; all seven of mine are pound puppies who for some strange reason think I am the greatest daddy of all time.
Must be all the bones and goodies I bring home from our local butcher.
God certainly has blessed you both FRiends, for making all the difference in those pups lives. Funny how that works out isn’t it, small smile.
Tatt
Judging by the pictures, I'd say the dog is a Border Collie mix. Young BCs can be a handful. Sadly, many people get one without knowing what they are getting into. The result can be what you see in the video.
