WOLFEBORO, N.H. (AP) — A town police commissioner has resigned after he admitted using a racial slur to describe President Barack Obama, an official said Monday.
Robert Copeland, 82, resigned Sunday night from the post to which he was re-elected in March, Board of Selectmen Chair Linda Murray said, putting to rest a controversy that drew national attention and sparked impassioned debate in this resort town of 6,300 on the shore of Lake Winnipesaukee.
"The town is pleased," Murray said Monday. "This gives us the opportunity to move on. We are a very accepting community that really takes care of each other."
Copeland has not returned several calls seeking comment.

Not the best way for a public official to go about keeping his job. I don't agree with PC witch hunts, but I can see why this would create some bad feelings.
I could see this coming. Unfortunately, the Sheriff didn’t have many defenders or not enough to ignore the hysteria.
One good thing is this man is 82 years old, and still active, I think he will get offers for some other job, in case he cannot afford to retire. He probably reached a point where he said “You know what, I really don’t even need to deal with this foolishness. Screw them, if my years of service can be canceled out so easily, and over a private damn conversation, at that! Let the town fall from the weight of it’s own ignorance!”
the cavalry ain’t coming...puller, carlson and patton are long gone...rand paul is no ron paul(might be somewhere among the top tier of lessers of evil...but let’s face it...there really isn’t all that much to restore...unless yer still a member of the herd/flock...

I’m with Copeland on this one.
The former sheriff is right, of course. Obama does indeed met and exceed the criteria of being thusly labeled. As does Holder, the one who ignores enforcement of laws against people who belong to his race, and considers this as rightful justice.
He wasn't canned. He quit. He said he wouldn't apologize. He didn't. He told them to stick it in the most diplomatic way possible. I say good for him.
I believe it, it really took care of him. Right under the bus he went!

Wolfboro NH is in the frozen North. I’ll bet he sees no more than 10 black people a year up there

Wolfeboro is loaded with the beautiful people from Assachusetts, New York and other blue states...Willard, for example. People who will grandstand on voting for a black man, but not willing to have one for a neighbor.
