Pet jerky treats, mostly imported from China, are being linked to more than 1,000 deaths in dogs, more than 4,800 complaints about animal illness, and, for the first time, sickness in three people who ate the products, federal health officials said Friday, according to nbcnews.com.
But Food and Drug Administration officials say they still can't identify a specific cause for the reported illnesses or deaths, despite seven years of tests and investigation.

If you love you Pet you would not give them anything to consume that was made in China.
Thanks, I’ll tell my daughter who has three dogs and a dehydrator.
Garlic and salt sound good to me too:)
I will now look for them.
I also never buy dishware or pots or pans made in china...just don’t trust them!
Our vaccines are mostly made there now. As are most of our meds.
Joy!
We make our own. I don’t buy anything edible from China unless the origin of the food is hidden.
I dc’d our Costco membership when I learned that they sell halal meat products.
If memory serves, about 90% of the Vitamin C ingredients....in the US....comes from China.

How could this happen with the DemocRats running our lives and protecting us?
BTW, that toothpaste you buy because it’s made in the US? A lot of the time the ingredients come from China anyway.
We bought “chicken jerky” from Costco *once*. It was so hard & so sharp, even in small pieces, that it never made it into their mouths.
That was before the “Chinese, melamine, whatever dog food & treat flap” several years ago. We stopped all meat based treats (Lean Treats, Bil Jac, & Pupperoni) around that time & they’ve done so much better since (5 or 6 years, now) Three Dog Bakery, Claudia’s Canine Cuisine, & Natural Balance Healthy Bones are what they’ve eaten since.
We’re about to try the handmade treats baked in-store at Pet Barn because the Healthy Bones Mia likes have been discontinued.
IIRC, chicken processed in China, for human consumption, was approved last year.
I only ever fed my dogs 100% American, USDA inspected, people-grade jerky. Jack Link’s, or better. If it wasn’t good enough for me, it wasn’t good enough for them.
I think the Milkbones are made in the USA but be very careful on its use. The primary ingredient is wheat and that's not good for larger dogs in large amounts.
The company is headquartered in Eagle, Idaho. The treats are made at their plant in Springfield, Utah. The telephone number is (866) 748-3212. I don’t remember if that’s the number I used a couple months ago to reach them, or not.
From what I can gather, these treats are sold only by Sam’s and Walmart.
Excellent! Thanks!
83,300,000 pet dogs with 1,000 deaths allegedly by these jerky treats.

And how many people over dosed their dog on these protein rich treats? Instructions say 1-3 per day depending on dog’s weight. They kill their animals with “Love” and blame it on the treats they poisoned bowser with. Too much of most any protein will shut down a dog’s kidneys.
Our dog was poisoned by Chinese dog food. I would never buy ANY food product, animal or human, from that country. No integrity whatsoever.
“Why is Costco still selling them? Wake up, Costco!!”
The last time I saw them at Costco they had switched production to Thailand.
I only sell the raw materials to the further processors but one of my good customers is “Jones Natural Chews” out of Illinois. I believe they have a website.
My dog has the best fun on his walks.. He Loves people and gets plenty of Love everywhere he goes.. However.. I will Not allow anyone to give him treats. I tell them he can only have certain treats. Some seem insulted, but oh well.. I care more about my dogs health than their little feelings.
Also.. Beware of water bowls left outside stores.. If there is water in them you don’t know how fresh it is.. It could be contaminated from sitting out there for days/weeks. I Always carry spring water/collapsable bowl with me.
These days you have to be careful out there! Stay safe!
I often give my dogs frozen broccoli florets as treats. They love them.
