Armed Thug Taken Down by Homeowner with AR-15
Jonathan Haith says he was sleeping in his Henderson, North Carolina, home on Monday morning when heard a light knock on his backdoor. He ignored the noise at first but a second louder noise coming from the "laundry room area" got his attention in a hurry. The loud bang was the sound of an armed thug kicking in his door. Haith quickly grabbed his AR-15 semi-automatic rifle from under his bed and prepared to confront the unwelcome intruder.

AR pistol even better.
a Hornady V max would probably fragmentate if it hit a wall. Might be worth investigating actually.
Oh jeezus, what IS that thing that was acting as host. I tried and tried, but couldn’t figure out if it is male or female. That is a pretty piece.
There is Youtube footage of AR rounds and wall board.
Interesting,I will check it out.
Buy a shotgun!
NOTHING is more effective for home defense if you can handle the recoil.
Sh!t. A Mossberg 500 Tactical can be had for $329 max.
8+1, 20in barrel.
Kicks like a mule. Twice what my 30.06 does. It'll bruise you.
Low-recoil loads in 12 bore are readily available for those who don’t like to bruise their shoulders.
Frangible lead-free .223 http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/AMM-286
Just not as effective as a 3inch, 00.
Absolutely! But I wonder how much difference there is between standard and low-recoil loads at close-quarters’ distance?
I know one thing - I wouldn’t want to fire an AR indoors w/o hearing protection!
Well the lowest “low recoil” load you want to go with is a standard 2 3/4 in some sort of buckshot. If somebody is selling something below 1000FPS it’s not worth the shot and powder to blow it to hell:)
I have built a backstop for a range in my garage. I’ve been testing the 60 grain Aguila super subsonic. Yes they keyhole from a 1911 .22lr GSG pistol, and yes they dig into the rubber mulch I use to catch the bullets. I’ve about decided that the round out of the very dependable GSG pistol is an idfeal home defense pistol round. I’ve gone ahead and altered the mags to hold fourteen rounds and am loading two mags with the 60 gr bullets, with two additional mags holding HV Federal hollow points. So far, no hiccups!
I’ve heard the same thing re: 5.56 tumbling. One comparison floating around on YouTube showed they penetrate less structure than 9mm and 45 ACP, if I remember correctly. You are right about ARs and recoil. My wife loves my AR, in fact she keeps it on her side of the bed. I get the Mossberg 12 on my side...
First shell in my Mossberg is a 7/8 oz rifled slug. Then #1 buck, slug, buck... In other words, hamburger makers. The slugs are there in case I need to shoot past a family member, the dog, etc and I don’t want any stray pellets catching them. Dangerous, yes, but if I have to do that it is already pretty bad. With the mix I’ve got options.
Fire a gun at someone in Florida while committing a felony and most likely you'll get a 20 year minimum sentence. The prosecutor can waive the minimum, but the judge can't.
[Hint: Probably because armed thugs don't think of their victims as “friends”. They are merely targets of opportunity to be plucked.]
