Armed Thug Taken Down by Homeowner with AR-15
Jonathan Haith says he was sleeping in his Henderson, North Carolina, home on Monday morning when heard a light knock on his backdoor. He ignored the noise at first — but a second louder noise coming from the "laundry room area" got his attention in a hurry. The loud bang was the sound of an armed thug kicking in his door. Haith quickly grabbed his AR-15 semi-automatic rifle from under his bed and prepared to confront the unwelcome intruder.

Per the link... Intruder fired a 9 mm at him and he fired back hitting the intruder. Intruder is in critical condition and his partner is in custody.

I would have loved to have seen the look on the thug’s face as the rounds were being fired at him.
...and so yet another young man may die. Another victim of gun violence. Why do people feel they need guns to settle every little dispute? What is it that turns people, like this homeowner, into savage killers? Is it some lust for adventure, the desire to play a real live video game and kill the “bad guys”? I sure hope not, because the “bad guys” here have families that love them, and people that depend on them. One would hope that we all learn something here: Violence is never the solution to a problem.

Ooh, nice. I’d blame the inequality of income between the obviously rich AR owner and the poor guys struggling to make ends meet with a 9mm. He should at least have offered them his gun.
AR-15, AK-47 are dicey for home defense in densely populated areas.
An HK94 with low velocity rounds puts a hurting on the zombie hoard without endangering your neighbors or others in the house as much.

AK (7.62x39) has a lot more penetration than the 5.56 in a home environment. Lots of tests have shown at 5.56 tumbles inside of walls with sheet rock, preventing overpenetration out of the walls of a home.
The AR-15 is a fine home-defense weapon. Shotgun might be better, but some (like my wife) are recoil-adverse, and the AR-15 is easy.
