Low recoil loads are effective in a 12guage.

Just not as effective as a 3inch, 00.

Absolutely! But I wonder how much difference there is between standard and low-recoil loads at close-quarters’ distance?

I know one thing - I wouldn’t want to fire an AR indoors w/o hearing protection!

First shell in my Mossberg is a 7/8 oz rifled slug. Then #1 buck, slug, buck... In other words, hamburger makers. The slugs are there in case I need to shoot past a family member, the dog, etc and I don’t want any stray pellets catching them. Dangerous, yes, but if I have to do that it is already pretty bad. With the mix I’ve got options.
