Milton Friedman predicted back in the early 70s that increased spending on public schools would have a negative result.

The purpose isn’t education. It is indoctrination and the funneling of money to the Democrat power base.

The only thing they need to know is the letter “D” so they can pull the proper lever at the polling booth.

For that amount of money you could hire a part time tutor for each student and expect better results.

DC has a 50% black population. This may explain a lot also.

The best private schools. In my area are under $12,000 per year. Everyone of the students go on to four year college and beyond — most on scholarship.

Damn shame these union teachers and liberals are holding these kids back from being able to get an education worth a damn.

for decades politicians of both parties have obstreperously pushed for more federal involvement in education and more federal spending on education.

In 2010, Barack Obama called for fixing the public education system by giving us the Elementary and Secondary Education Act and “Race to the Top,”

which he said would fix the education system already fixed by the 2001 GW Bush and Ted Kennedy legislation called “No Child Left Behind,”

which was supposed to fix a system supposedly already fixed by a 1994 piece of federal legislation called “Goals 2000,”

which was supposed to fix a system already fixed by “America 2000,”

which was a 1991 response during the Bush administration to a 1983 federal report on education called “A Nation at Risk,

which was published a full four years after Jimmy Carter first fixed the nation’s public school system by establishing a cabinet-level Department of Education in 1979.

Our schools don’t NEED more money!

Our schools NEED NON-UNION Teachers and Administrators, who have the EDUCATION of our children as their first priority.

“Education” is NOT “Indoctrination” to a Leftist idology!

Note that this is a system wide average for all grades. In the private school world, tuition is often significantly higher -- sometimes double or more -- at the high school vs. the elementary level. It is probably not a sound procedure to apply the same split to public school finances since so much of the bloat in the public sector is administrative overhead downtown. But for purposes of argument, if one did such a split, I would not be surprised if DC is spending more per student than most or all of the elite, nationally known private schools.

Just for comparison, the $29,349 figure for DCPS is three to four times the tuition at the typical Catholic elementary school in DC. It is also more than the tuition at any of the Catholic high schools in DC except for Georgetown Prep (boys), where tuition is in the low $30's. Stone Ridge (Bethesda, MD, girls) is $29,500 for high school. The typical Catholic high school in DC is in the $12-17,000 range. A couple of the other "name" Catholic schools are in the mid-20's. Prices are a bit higher for the "name" secular private schools

We all know that if more money were to be spent, that number $29,349 should be doubled, then the number could be moved from 83% to 93% very quickly. (Liberal Logic)
