Hedge Clippers

I have a couple of questions that I need answers to before I run out and purchase a new hedge clipper.

My first question is: Should I go with a corded or battery powered one?

I have never had any type of battery operated tool (other than a drill) that was worth a d@mn .. battery wears out quickly or doesn't hold a charge for long and is usually underpowered.

My other question is: What length blade is ideal?

I have be using a cr@ppy little 16 inch blade for a few years and it really sucks using it on my four foot wide hedges!

I am not really sure what length blades are available?

Simple as they are, those are my two questions that I hope some of you can help me with.

Get a chain saw.
Not necessarily a tidy job but if you really want to cut it down to size, get a saw, not a clipper.

When I was a kid, I saw a young man clip his fingers while tugging on the extension cord to get some slack. Docs were able to stitch them back on but he always looked like he was giving the finger to everyone. As a kid, I was not traumatized but now I have a healthy respect for my lawn tools with sharp blades. I personally use an electric hedge clipper only because I inherited them... and I keep my hands a safe distance from those blood thirsty blades!

Little pricey $100+ but mine has both cord and battery capability. Sometimes you feel like a cord, sometimes you don’t.

This "problem" can be solved easily, cheaply & with some exercise thrown in, to boot.

After 20 years of trimming 15 foot high privet bushes, I finally did this...hired someone to do it for me. Worked like a charm. ;-)

I have a Black & Decker electric 16" electric cord-connected hedge clipper that I've used for over 10 years. Used it a week ago; still going strong.

For string trimmers, I recommend gas. I always burn out the motors on electric string trimmers.

I don't do facebook either. Again, I apologize for insulting you. Up in MN our hedges have only baby leafs on theme. nothing to trim.

My next hedge trimming job will involve removing about five dozen maple saplings that are growing up inside and through my hedges.

Electric clippers are wholly unsuited to this. Calls for an old-school manual approach using wire cutters.

I have to lay waste to all the little maple trees every year. Sorry, Canada!
