Only secondarily through Filter’s “Hey Man Nice Shot!”
Yeah. A sick, sad man that hurt others as he decided to ditch his mortal coil. I’ll pray for his soul.
He was a Republican in the Pennsylvania State Senate, representing the state’s 50th District.
I remember it. “No, Bud, No....”
At the time, one of the local TV stations showed the video and caught heck for it. He was PA treasurer at the time, if I recall correctly.
I recall it very well since I had not left for Texas. I saw it live on channel 11 in Pittsburgh. The other stations, when they did the replays, edited out the shot but channel 11 kept it in, showing the whole thing. I think there was one station over in Philly that showed the whole thing. It’s on Youtube.
If you can use google you can watch the video
I remember it well...I was a Senior in HS in PA at the time, taking a few courses part time at a local university. A few years later, I dated a gal whose dad was a speech writer in Harrisburg, and had been in the front row at Dwyer’s presser. My GFs dad had been deeply traumatized by the experience.
Hey man, nice shot.
Song was written about him.
He blew his brains out live on TV.
I was slightly amused when someone in the crowd started hollering, 'Somebody get a doctor!'
I remember it. Didn’t it have to do with awarding computer contracts. I lived in PA at the time.
What year did it happen?
There is no need for honor anymore. Today, someone like Dwyer would keep the appeals going while serving in office....then, he would retire with full pension and cut a plea deal.
Back then, prosecutors were tenacious tigers who protected the public from political malfeasance.
Today, those prosecutors are looking for a seat at the table of power, so cutting a deal, going lenient or mishandling the case earn points with the political party machine that can be used for political office later on.
I remember when this happened. He was charged with some type of wrong doing (don’t remember the specific charge, but if I recall correctly, it was not that serious.) He called a press conference in which he rambled for several minutes, was visibly upset, then reached into a bag, pulled out a gun, and shot himself. It’s not a video you would want to see.
I would not mind seeing a few libtards doing a Budd Dwyer on live TV...
Yes I had the misfortune to see it live. Gave me nightmares for days afterwards.
I don’t remember it, but I heard about it through Filter, and then saw the video. Nasty, but people should see what death looks like.
I was on duty, working in the media on January 22, 1987. There was a snowstorm that day to boot.
What an awful thing. The television stations did some editing but there was plenty of criticism about showing it in the middle of the day with kids home from school because of the snow.
As a Pennsylvanian, the Budd Dwyer Case is an illustration of the pandemic of corruption in the political system of Pennsylvania that continues to this day.
When I go to vote in the primary on May 20th I will have that in mind in not supporting my corrupt Republican Governor Tom Corbett who is buying his re-election with a 28 cent a gallon gas tax hike to support highway and bridge construction companies, mass transit companies and unionized workers who will all give some of the money back in campaign gifts to politicians like him.
I writing in a name for governor when I vote. Bob Guzzardi.
