The supermarket pharmacist grew concerned when a customer hadn't picked up his prescription
Pharmacy employee John Robertson is being hailed as a hero after saving a customer's life. When a customer failed to pick up his prescription, Robertson got worried and, with the help of deputies, went to check on the man at his home. Turns out, the man was injured and had been lying on his bathroom floor for up to two days. NBC 7's Matt Rascon reports.
A Ramona senior citizen who spent up to two days on his bathroom floor is alive thanks to one astute pharmacist.
Just two days after meeting a new customer at the Ramona Albertsons, pharmacist John Robertson became worried when the man never picked up his prescription.
So Robertson decided to go the man’s house and check on him.
“He didn't come to the door, so I got really nervous for him thinking something may have happened,” Robertson said.
Top 10 Words People Tweet About Their Moms With the help of San Diego County sheriff's deputies, Robertson found the man lying on his bathroom floor, where he had been for up to two days.
“It worked out, I guess a bit of intuition and a bit of worrying about my friend,” Robertson said.
“I was glad that we were able to help him out.”
On Thursday, Robertson was honored with the “Real Hometown Hero” award.
“I think it's unnecessary, and I'm pretty embarrassed about it,” Robertson said.
But the director of the Ramona Senior Center disagrees.
“To have someone else backing us up checking on our seniors, it's a great thing,” Ray Cordona said.
Robertson admits it’s not in his job description to make house calls.
“That's not standard protocol, I know. But sometimes, you just have a deep-seeded feeling inside of you that something's not right,” he said.
“I guess you can call it intuition or God was telling me, ‘you need to check on this guy.’ Everything's o.k.”
The senior citizen remains in the hospital. There is no word yet when he will be released.
Whomever it was did a real service for his neighbor.
This couldn’t be totally rare could it?
There must be plenty of medicines that are like picking up a bottle of Oxygen, the kind of thing that would make a pharmacist wonder pretty quickly why it suddenly wasn’t needed.

the man was a decent human being with enough curiosity and concern to take the next steps.
I agree it’s good news, but it must happen occasionally.
For years, before I finally started using the VA, I depended on Pharmacists for medical advice and solutions, and when traveling, sometimes still do if it is an emergency.
They will even recommend over the counter combinations, if needed.
Another reason to #1 pick a good pharmacy and stick with it. #2 Be EXTREMELY NICE to the employees.
It’s amazing the way people treat service employees. As if their absurdly rude behavior will get them better service?
Pharmacists know more about medications than most doctors. pharmacists are now required to have a doctorate degree, anyway.
In this day and age he’ll probably be fired for interfering in the person’s private life. Hero he may be, but not in the PC world we live in today.
It was my job to call in prescriptions. The chain stores are so incredibility overwhelmed they can’t possibly keep up with all of their customers. This was in a small town too. So I prefer to use small independent pharmacies. I have to pay in full for my meds, but I don’t require much. Totally worth it to me. I have a friend who’s father ran a small independent pharmacy. He knew all his customers, especially the elderly ones. Knew what insulin all his diabetic customers took, knew when they might be running low. My friend worked after school delivering to his customers. You don’t hear too much about home delivery anymore.
