What do you get when you cross hard rock, Christian lyrics, and conservative politics? The answer, 20 lb Sledgea southern California band that describes their music as a wave after wave of sonic body blows, juicy melodies and lyrics, barkin with a bite of sharp-toothed defense of faith and patriotism.
20 lb Sledge is the brain child of drummer, Alfonzo Rachel. In 2008, he realized he needed Christ and Christ needed to be at the center of his life. He felt like it took 20 pound sledge hammer to break down the wall of pride standing between him and Christ. That realization gave him the name of the band.
The band recently released their first CD, Divine Battery, whose song of the same name is currently climbing the Christian internet radio charts. 20 lb Sledge band member, K. Martin Wade, plays bass, is a Christian, and a full-spectrum conservative. Eli Chatman, the front-man, is an apolitical Christian who looks for candidates whose beliefs align with the Ten Commandments. The lead guitarist, Shawn Taylor, is a pro-life, 2nd Amendment supporting, and traditional marriage kind of Catholic. Alfonzo Rachel is the drummer, songwriter, and the main subject of this article.

Listened to one of the songs. Not quite my style, but then, I’m only 51 and not one of those 60 year old Black Sabbath guys.
I think he’s onto something though. I used to listen to a whole lot of Christian music, mostly of the rock/pop variety, Petra, Whiteheart etc.
Most of the stuff today is too whiny and a bit metro for me. I like masculine music.
I have a new online magazine I write for called The relevant Christian magazine.
It posts 3 editions a year and the Spring edition just went live today. I am the political editor for them.
This article is an interview of Alfonzo Rachel, of Zonation, by Karmann Powell who is the musical editor I thought you might enjoy.
You should check out his youtube political rants. he really takes it to the left, and especially the poverty pimps in the Democrat party who have destroyed the black community.

Watched that video Divine Battery. Im early 40s and am a Black Sabbath guy... go figure. Not sure how someone that would like Petra and Whiteheart would NOT like this??? Especially when using the qualifier that you like masculine and not whiny or metro music. Seems 20 LB Sledge should fit your requirements perfectly.
This is a standard that will encompass (protect) the same today as it has throughout the generations.
Thank you for the ping and introduction to 20 LB Sledge.
Thanks, I’ll check it out!
I need more information as I am not getting what you are saying, or what you are saying does not make sense. If your only 51 and not a 60 year old Black Sabbath fan what does that mean? Are you suggesting Black Sabbath has gone soft or is irrelevant? They killed it on their current tour and last album. Not to knock Petra or Whitecross, but I always thought they were diluted versions of better bands in the hard rock/metal genre of the 80s. Heck I thought Stryper (if we have to stick with Christian metal bands) was one of the more interesting bands and the ones you mentioned reeked of cheesiness and it was hard to take them seriously.
Ping.
Very much liked that!!!
Thanks OV!
Here you go verga, I also added you to the Proverb a day list.
bfl.
Thank you for the ping!
