Parents Begin Hormone Therapy on 9-Year-Old ‘Transgender’ Boy

This is not parental love. This is misguided, tragic indulgence. It’s as simple and pure as that. Parental love prepares a child for adulthood–momentary happiness has little to do with it.

Parental love sees beyond what a child currently wants, or thinks he wants, and gives him what he needs. What this child needs is unconditional love and a chance for his brain to mature and his body to fully develop.

It’s far beyond the comprehension of a child to see himself as an adult. To a child of nine, eighteen is a lifetime away. Neither Keat nor his parents can fathom what his life will be like as an adult. The physical and mental consequences of a chemically altered body through puberty cannot be fully understood and weighed.

What if Keat had Body Integrity Identity Disorder? The same feelings of being born wrong exist. A person with this disorder believes he or she would be happier without the appendages they were born with. Would these parents still be good parents by indulging this disorder with amputation before puberty?

David Peter Reimer (August 22, 1965 – May 5, 2004) was a Canadian man who was born biologically male. However, he was sexually reassigned and raised as female after his penis was accidentally destroyed during circumcision. Psychologist John Money oversaw the case and reported the reassignment as successful and as evidence that gender identity is primarily learned. Academic sexologist Milton Diamond later reported that Reimer failed to identify as female since the age of 9 to 11, making the transition to living as a male at age 15. Reimer later went public with his story to discourage similar medical practices. He later committed suicide, owing to suffering years of severe depression, financial instability, and a troubled marriage.

Not all the time, but very often, children will say what they think we want to hear. They should wait till this child is older. All of us have to learn a certain degree of self-acceptance, otherwise, one never learns the feeling of contentment, however fleeting that may be. You end up like Michael Jackson or some Movie star who cannot stop surgeries to alter their appearance. I read about some woman whose ‘goal’ is to have the largest breasts in the world, just for the fame and lucrative reputation. Never mind the health risks, never mind that she neglects and embarrasses her teenage children. Her focus is soley on herself.

This is so wrong. Let the child wait until 18 and then they can decide for themselves.

Are we to give in to every whim of our children no matter how passionate it is?
