'Star Wars: Episode VII' Cast Announced
Yahoo Movies ^ | April 29, 2014 | Matt McDaniel

Luke. Leia. Han. Chewie. Artoo. Threepio. All present and accounted for as StarWars.com unveiled the official cast of "Star War: Episode VII" Tuesday.

Here's the full release:

The Star Wars team is thrilled to announce the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII.

Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.

Director J.J. Abrams says, "We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud."

Star Wars: Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer. The movie opens worldwide on Dec. 18, 2015.

While original stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford had dropped hints that they would be reprising their roles for the new chapter, which takes place around 35 years after "Return of the Jedi," nothing was confirmed until today. The trio will be joined by longtime castmates Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Kenny Baker (R2-D2) and Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca).

New additions include Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver, who recently appeared together in the Coen brothers' 2013 folk music drama "Inside Llewyn Davis." Also onboard: Andy Serkis (best known as Gollum in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy), Domhnall Gleeson ("About Time",) and the legendary Max von Sydow ("The Exorcist"). Fresh faces John Boyega ("Attack the Block") and Daisy Ridley (who has appeared in just a handful of BBC dramas) round out the cast.

Sort of like Sean Connery trying to play James Bond right now.

But... then again, it IS Sean Connery... and he defined cool! He MIGHT be the ONLY guy who pull it off.

Seriously though, he’s an all-around great actor.

He was great in “Red October” and “The Rock”.

was amazed at real it seemed.

30 - 40 years later, the original 1970's /1980's Special effects are still impressive and still look real.

Ironically however, ~15 years later the 1990's / 2000s "Special Edition" add on effects look cheesy and dated.

Maybe they can get Keith Richards to play Han Solo's father.
More like great-grandfather.

Yikes!

Starved, then botoxed and carved. That is going to take a LOT of Bondo to patch that rust.

She could be like Mon Mothma....

The strain of ruling the New Republic could have taken it’s toll on Leila, not to mention the scandal of her having once been a member of Jabba the Hut Harem would do to her re-election cmpaign...

Yes, IF that is recent; like I said, I don’t know how long ago that photo was taken.

To me, she looks worn dow, and overly thin. And yes, as you mentioned, her lifestyle was not particularly healthy.

But as sickoflibs pointed out, crash quicky diets for losing a lot of weight fast play havoc on your bod after a certain age.

Either way, it should be interesting to see the original cast again and how they handle the roles.

All of them are considerably older.

Wow... so am I. I was 16 when “Star Wars” came out... holy crap...

Amazing! Apparently they are going to use audio samples of Frank Nelson for the newest irritating Star Wars character...

Frank Nelson. Wasn't he The Great Gildersleeve at one time?

Once Scotty’s actor died they gave up making Star Trek movies with the old geezers and then cast the new Star Trek movies with young actors who could really play those action roles.

The original Star Trek was an action adventure and once that actors became old (by the late 1980s) its was sad looking.

Unfortunately the three Star Wars prequels I,II and III sucked and they had a young cast.

Fighting the insurance companies for the last 30 years over her claims for Alderaan took a toll.

The first three episodes were, and are, classics.I've never had,and never *will* have, the slightest interest in any of the others.

Personally I like von Sydow. You could do worse than to watch every movie he has ever been in, from his Bergman movies such as The Seventh Seal, to the Exorcist, to Pollack’s Three Days of the Condor (my personal fav).

If he’s a lib, don’t tell me.

That being said, I would shoot his scenes first. The same goes for Donald Sutherland. They hopefully have all his Hunger Games scenes already in the can.

Well given that 4 out of the 6 existing movies kind of stink it’ll be hard for anybody to ruin it. I love SW, but grim realities must be admitted.
