'Star Wars: Episode VII' Cast Announced
Yahoo Movies ^ | April 29, 2014 | Matt McDaniel

Luke. Leia. Han. Chewie. Artoo. Threepio. All present and accounted for as StarWars.com unveiled the official cast of "Star War: Episode VII" Tuesday.

Here's the full release:

The Star Wars team is thrilled to announce the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII.

Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.

Director J.J. Abrams says, "We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud."

Star Wars: Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer. The movie opens worldwide on Dec. 18, 2015.

While original stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford had dropped hints that they would be reprising their roles for the new chapter, which takes place around 35 years after "Return of the Jedi," nothing was confirmed until today. The trio will be joined by longtime castmates Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Kenny Baker (R2-D2) and Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca).

New additions include Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver, who recently appeared together in the Coen brothers' 2013 folk music drama "Inside Llewyn Davis." Also onboard: Andy Serkis (best known as Gollum in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy), Domhnall Gleeson ("About Time",) and the legendary Max von Sydow ("The Exorcist"). Fresh faces John Boyega ("Attack the Block") and Daisy Ridley (who has appeared in just a handful of BBC dramas) round out the cast.

They will be using software to tweak the images of the original cast members...ala Bruce Willis in "Surrogates" The state-of-the-art is even better now so it should work well.

My son and I always loved the Hoth battle scene in “Empire Strikes Back”.

It was indeed a chilling scene; I imagined what it would be like facing armored giants in the snow like that.

Wow, lotsa meanness here directed at Carrie Fisher. I hope you all look fantastic in your late 50s.

That said, I have to say my inner child was thrilled to death to see Hamill, Ford, and Fisher in the picture taken at the table read today. Who knows if the film will be any good, but they were my childhood idols and it’s nice to see them together for one last hurrah.

It occurred to me that the rule in that family should be “no children after dad dies. Period.” Teach them to have kids early and be done with it.

Here’s that scene... entire Hoth battle.

It’s still dramatic.

Enjoy!

A Star Wars movie without Darth Vader is like a Pink Panther movie without Inspector Clouseau Peter Sellers.

There. Fixed it.

RE :”LOL, re: Teddy Bear Army.
Iirc the 2nd Death Star was orginally intended to have been constructed over the Wookie home planet, by Wookie slave labor. But for some reason Lucas decided to go with the Ewok home planet instead.
I’ve heard it was money related ... Either going with the Ewoks were cheaper and he was at his budget limit, or they presented a new sales channel for making additional marketing cash. Knowing Lucas it was probably the latter.”

Good point, that Teddy Bear Army scene did look cheap.

They front loaded all the special effects in the third movie (Return) and then ended the trilogy with the midgets in bear suits hitting the Storm troopers (who had blast guns) with sticks, pretty lame little kid stuff.

Man that ending with the Teddy bears singling and dancing and they are all smiling and OB(Alex Guinness) comes back as a ghost was a pretty painful ending.

I did love the SNL Satire of the first move, 'Beach Blanket Bimbo from Outer Space' with Carrie Fisher in the Bikini, she was really hot in those days.

Thanks notsofastmyfriend.

Harrison Ford got the call about the job in the original Star Wars while shingling a roof. He was doing odd jobs to stay alive, and had a book out of the library that told how to shingle.

Carrie Fisher et al, on Big Bang Theory. Mudfence alert:

Don’t know these guys. Whether this is part of Lucas’s real storylines or not, I have no idea.

After the six films, and being part of the initial fan wave and book buyer, from that fateful May in Denver, CO., 1977, through to seeing the evolution of Darth Vader unfold on the big screen, shortly before the landscape forcibly changed by Hurricane Katrina, I closed the book on that saga.

Now, in the time of movie houses being shot up, and those same houses standing on the stupidity of a gun-free zone, and the price of the concessions making a solo trip to the movies more costly than a steak dinner at a mid-scale steakhouse, George, I ain’t got it to give ya!!!!

“..that ending with the Teddy bears singling and dancing and they are all smiling and OB(Alex Guinness) comes back as a ghost was a pretty painful ending....”

Agreed... it was cheesy.

But the speeder bikes and Chicken-Walkers (AT-STs) were cool.

I have the same amount of interest in these new “Star Wars” crapfests as I do in smelling Lindsay Lohan’s breath - NONE!

These films, like the last three will be at best, subpar when compared the the original trilogy.

They’ll make a gagillion dollars, for sure, but they will suck. I’ll predict they’ll suck worse than the last three that were made.

And who in their right mind wants to shell out anything to see Hamill and Fisher? Even Harrison Ford is ehhh...

I pass. The only positive I see is a spike in the price of collectables, then I’ll sell what I have left.

He also played the hit man in Three Days of the Condor, a personal fave!
