The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.
No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

I hope you weren't in that ditch very long before someone found you. You were lucky this time, luckier than the last time when it turned over in the yard. The roots on top of your ground in the yard are a hazard for that scooter and your bones and head. Did the roots cause you to end up in the ditch this time? If you take blood thinners you need to have Celox (get it on Amazon), to stop the bleeding right then. Get the liquid, not the patches as patches take longer to stop the bleeding and they eventually dry out. Now, you get that if you don't have it. As your personal EMT, I demand you get it. :o)
What are we going to do about the scooter turning over? No wonder your wife is upset - so am I because there is no one with you during the day. If you recall, when I was there, you warned me about the roots on top of the ground, to watch my footing.
Thank goodness, you didn't end up at the emergency room this time.
I’ve seen the same thing with tomato cuttings. People make it out to be more complicated than it is. I keep the soil for tomato cuttings moist (almost waterlogged) until they put out new leaves. That way I know the roots have grown without having to disturb the soil and look for them.

Thanks, I’ll be ok, just stiff as a board now. Will not get a lot done today as far as working the sheetrock mud.
Just for the record, I was not doing donuts when I crashed. LOL
I have run over the roots so many times now that I have cleared out a trail going uphill in the back yard by breaking the roots running over them. I stay clear of the rest of the root area.
In was in the street going around to the front of the property. At the corner, it is downhill and the roadway is banked like a racetrack. I usually take a higher path where it is flatter, but not quite this time. Once it sucks you in there in no turning or you crash for sure on the pavement, I didn’t want that. I kind of went with it so I could choose my path off the pavement hoping I could keep it upright when I hit the ditch. Almost. I got past the concrete part that goes under the street and it turned over just barely past the concrete. The tough part of crashing it is being tangled up in it, trying to get my feet free. I had on flops, so my feet did not much like all the metal and fiberglass trapping them. I was in the part of the ditch that the county keeps dug out for water drainage, so I had limited movement, like being in a hole. My wife saw me crash and was right there immediately. She got my feet free of the scooter, which was the only thing that was hurting. In a few minutes, a neighbor came up and got out and called her hubby to come help me from two houses away and with his help I got back on my feet and on the scooter again. I do keep my phone in my pocket at all times, so if I get myself in a jam when I’m home alone, I can call for help.
Here at 3:30am I am sore all over and stiff, My wife is sore also from helping pull me up out of the ditch. Gracie sensed something was wrong out front and broke her collar and got free of the dog run in the back yard and came out to see what was up. I was also glad not to wind up in the hospital this time.
A golf cart would be better for getting around on the property, but my wife wanted me to get this thing instead. Whenever I can get a golf cart, I am going to. They are a lot more stable on the hillside and can be used as a utility vehicle carrying stuff around where my truck wont’ fit. The hill in front of the house is so steep my truck will no go up it, and I’m NOT getting a 4wheeler.
I’m gunna try to get some more sleep. I have things I want to do today, rather than napping to catch up.
I hope so. Just hope we don't get any severe storms today. We are on the southern edge of the projected area for storms, but could use the rain.
I got a phone call yesterday from the guy who mows our lawn for our house in Springfield. He said they had hail there, but he thought every thing was ok. Didn't see any trees down or shingles that had blown off the roof.
We'll have to go in and check it out a little more in the next couple of weeks.
rightly, I thought you would have pain in various places today from that fall. Hope that goes away soon. No sign of pepper yet.
Hooray, everyone, have 16 tiny green bits, can tell they are leaves, of Cilantro up this morning. Another short cucumber plant has blossoms. The two foot one has more blossoms open. Maybe I’ll get a cucumber some day.
Great news on the cukes and cilantro. Peppers can be frustrating in my experiences. I will never again attempt to grow any color of bell peppers.
I am moving a bit slowly today, but I plan to work it out by working on the shop wall where I put the spackling yesterday.
Take care of yourself. At least take the afternoon off for resting up after your crash.

My Eversweet strawberries just started getting ripe this week. They did not do much last year, but much better this time. They are a type that makes over a long period and they are not very large, but the flavor is incredible.
My Rosborough Blackberries are still blooming but have some fruit already set. Looks like it will be much better than last year. Those are the best flavored blackberries I have ever eaten. Jelly from them is incredible. Trick to picking them is wait until the sheen on the outside of the berries just begin to turn dull. That is when they are the sweetest.
I planted mine with 18’ seperation and offset every other row 9’ to minimize the root overlap. Am happy with that scheme. It does make it necessary for me to plow diagonal across the rows and straight down the rows with the run.
If you have rabbits, I suggest welded wire cages to prevent them from eating the bark away on the trees. The damaged some of mine before I caught that. If you let them the little vermin will absolutely kill fruit trees. They “like” the way they taste.
I couldn’t remember which strawberry plants I ordered and why I ordered that kind. I know I did research on that, so just looked them up and I bought Chandler Strawberry Plants. They are medium sized and good and plants are very healthy.
It’s good to hear that you’ll be OK. I see that Marcella gave you the once-over in post #81, so I won’t throw any stones ;)!
Nice beds. How deep are they?
Mine are medium to small size, but big on sweetness. And they produce a long time.
They do not keep long once picked. But it is great to go out in the morning and pick fresh strawberries to go on my oatmeal.
I just got done working in the garden all day. It was the backyard garden, we finally got the hose spigot installed so I can fill wall-o-waters without having to carry jugs around. On one garden bed I wanted the trellis up before I put the wall-o-waters up, and since the fittings I needed finally came this week, I thought I’d just cut my pipes and put my new trellis together.
Lesson: Cutting PVC pipes by hand takes a WHOLE lot longer than I thought it would! It seems I should have been cutting pipes all the while I was waiting for the snow to melt. I sat out by the garden cutting pipes for almost 7 hours, and I’ve only got about half of them done. My shoulder held up longer than I expected, but it’s letting me know I’m in for it tomorrow.
I’ll post pictures of the trellis once it’s done.
The temperature dropped like a rock during the last hour I was working, so I’m going to go eat some soup and thaw out.

I dont know how you cut the PVC or what size it is, but they make a cutter that snips it like garden cutters.
