Want To Become A Billionaire? Just Solve One Of These 10 Problems
Business Insider ^ | 04/22/2014 | Rob Wile

We recently gave you a list of 25 trends that would be making people billionsMost of the phenomena will end up benefiting everyone.

But if you fancied yourself as someone who could be turned into a billionaire, you were arguably cheating — these were things everyone has already figured out.

The real challenge, and the greater value and more lucrative pursuit, would be to come up with the solutions to problems that have befuddled engineers for decades or more.

We thought of 10 of them:

1. Wireless Power

Digital devices have become so small that it can be cumbersome to plug them into a power source. Longer-lasting batteries? Nope — Apple iPod God Tony Fadell says pursuing greater efficiency in batteries is a trap. The key is to find ways of squeezing more efficiency out of the devices' other parts — and stealing power from what's around you. University of Washington engineers, among others, are at work on harvesting existing TV and cellular transmissions and turning them into a power source. "This novel technique enables ubiquitous communication where devices can communicate among themselves at unprecedented scales and in locations that were previously inaccessible," they say.

2. Rural, Remote Internet

Everyone agrees this is a priority. But there appear to be a hard way and an easier way to achieve it. The former involves lots of expensive regulatory clearance and installations. The latter, currently spearheaded by Google, is called Project Loon. The company plans to send renewables-powered balloons to the edge of space to create an Internet network in remote parts of the world. "We believe it's possible to create a ring of balloons that fly around the globe on the stratospheric winds and provide Internet access to the earth below," they say. Whoa.

7. Cheap Desalination

I keep reading stories for the past 10 years, every six months or so that this one has been solved.

Isn’t the answer obvious? Just create another government program.

No gold ring for someone who solves healthcare problems? Surely there’s some combination of actuary/lawyer/medical doctor/CONSERVATIVE! who can come up with an ethical, efficacious system!

Faulty assumption built into the title. The globalist oligarchs are not going to let ANY energy developments take hold which would make fossil fuels an 'also ran'. So, any item in the list which would do that is automatically a faulty assumption.

For example: desalinization can be done very efficiently using Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactors, and that energy production method would be far safer and cheaper in the long run than the current nuclear energy systems. [BUT, it would not generate the isotopes in quantity desired by the weapons industries.]

Another perspective is the energy production and utilization processes for the UFOs now flying our skys. Those are not running on gas, and our black-projects technology are making working editions of these crft.

It’s called ‘dicondra’ or dichondra. I planted it in my uncle’s yard in Encino Hills, LA area way back in the early sixties. You can cut it like grass, but it will not grow into knee-high scrag if not mown regularly.

The solutions is simple. Deregulate the health insurance business. Let insurance companies offer insurance policies of any type and let the market decide which policies are needed and which ones are not. My guess is most consumers would migrate to catastrophic insurance plans with high deductibles, very high lifetime limits if any limits at all and low premiums. Routine doctor visits would be cash only transactions.

The other key is to remove the requirement of hospitals to treat someone who doesn’t have insurance or can’t afford to pay cash. The freeloaders would soon learn they need to buy insurance or be at the mercy of county hospitals or charities.

These two changes would allow the market to optimally set pricing and would thus optimally allocate resources, including investment in cost reducing technology that would lower the cost of health care while maintaining quality.

That was my first thought, too.

But as another poster opined, the powers that be frown mightily on developers like Tesla.
