PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) Once again, Portland officials are preparing to flush millions of gallons of treated water because a young person urinated into a city reservoir.
Water Bureau Administrator David Shaff said 38 million gallons will be discarded because a 19-year-old was caught in the act on Wednesday

Yes, what am I missing here? It’s an outdoor reservoir. There are probably fish in it, there are certainly snakes, and worms, and bugs. Birds landing and drinking and pooping and peeing. Other animals, runoff from contaminated land.
I would assume that they treat the water before the put it in the pipes. How could one kid’s pee make a bit of difference?
Actually, this makes no sense. Urine isn’t even a particularly toxic chemical. And there’s no way they can flush the entire lake.
This seems like a false story to me. I just don’t get it.
I worked on water lines and any water exposed to the elements has to be treated before it enters the supply system. What Asshole’s!
I’m in San Diego.
Well it is Portland, so we know most of the water wouldn’t be used for showers.
Would it have made a difference if the 19 year old “boy” was 7 or 21? Why is the age of the male specimen important? Since when is a 19 yo a boy?
What are the chance that they drain the lake and find the bottom lined with carcasses and a few tires.
I think the current fashionable trendy definition would be .... “taking stupidity to a new level”.
But you gotta understand that that is NATURAL, ORGANIC, FREE RANGE squat, not manmade poison. :-)
Oh I LOVE San Diego - have been looking at moving to Carlsbad. Born in Portland but I grew up down there and miss the wonderful weather.
But yes, Oregon is a place of incredible beauty - when you don’t need your windshield wipers. :-) And Portland is a really easy place to live - everything is close - for me anyway.
Your Honor, I would like to point out that Humans piss ammonia as a waste product.
Uric acid is the final result after being combined with Carbon Dioxide.
So, in effect he was treating the water. Personally. A contributable endeavor.
Oh, goodness gracious! Do you know what fish do in that water???
Obviously Portland must employ city Water Utility workers to shoot any bird that dares fly over the reservoir . . . Oh, snap. . . The bodies? What do they do to prevent the bloody little bodies from splashing in? Well, at least they won't be urinating or deficating in the water supply ever again.
More evidence that Liberals who pride themselves on keeping their minds so open have failed to notice their brains have fallen out. SPLAT! Democrat Cerebral Defenestration.
Old fish wear Depends. . .
the pee is more sterile than that water
Good thing he didn’t drop a Baby Ruth in there or it would’ve been the apocalypse.
2008
Yep they are stupid. This is at least the 2nd time they’ve completely emptied the reservoir because some one peed in it.
Have you been to Bend? We like to go to Sunriver and almost every time we run into people from S. California there who say what you just said. They love the weather, pace, the fishing. House prices are quite good and it doesn’t rain much there.
Correction my prior comment:
Was in a hurry and missed that the $35,000 was for the PRIOR incident.
Doing the math, not adjusting for inflation or any other factors, this incident cost the rate/taxpayers $166,000 & change.
It’s utterly stupid to store treated water in an open reservoir. Even most of the tiniest, most backward small town water treatment plants have a large enclosed tank called a clearwell.
