Eric Stults likely regrets leaving a lifeless 89 mph fastball right below Giancarlo Stanton’s belt and over the middle of the plate. Stanton’s mammoth blasts aren’t too surprising anymore, but this shot still doesn’t have a clear landing point, or not one we can find. Perhaps the ball was reduced to smithereens. Perhaps it extended beyond the atmosphere into orbit.

I saw that. Best hitter in baseball since George Brett, IMO.
If a ball literally went straight up into the Stratosphere, it wouldn’t be a Home Run. It would be considered(correctly) a Ground Rule Double. Regardless of its altitude, a ball has to clear the wall, in ‘Fair’ territory(between the lines) to be a Home Run.
Having witnessed some of Mantle’s blasts, I’d say that one was close to some of his, but not better.
He had a 4 hit day.

Just saw that video. That ball was CRUSHED. The pitch looked like a Hanging Slider, and that’s what usually happens when a breaking ball doesn’t ‘break’. The pitch ends up being a batting practice speed fast ball, and they tend to go a LONG way in the other direction. lol
I was about 13 when the Marlins were founded. They were my favorite team. However, they are cheapskates. Miguel Cabrera, was theirs, but as soon as he started what looks to be a HOF caliber career, they let him go.
They draft a lot of great players, awesome scouts, but as soon as their young prospects want more money, they let them go.
And thus the near empty ballpark.
That angers me even more. They built the stadium about 45 to 70 miles south of where their fan base is. They received hundreds of millions of dollar, and now they put a AA minor league team on the field.
Excluding the postseason, naturally....
Agree. The ballpark should have been built much further north - even in Palm Beach County. Don King tried to give them the old Jai Alai property on 45th St. in West Palm and they wanted nothing to do with it.
That said, Marlins Park is a very cool place. Totally unique for sure.
We got Jim Leyland from the Marlins as well. He retired from managing last year but he’s still with the Tigers organization as an advisor of some sort.
The new manager Brad Ausmus looks like he belongs on the field.
Would like to see it, but I’m not going to sit through a 30 second commercial to watch a 10 second baseball clip.

That is where I am originally from, and I thought that was fantastic idea. Change the name to the Palm Beach Sailfish or keep it the same and kind of build a more retroactive stadium, that would be a larger version of the stadium next to the auditorium.
I haven’t been to the new stadium. I live in CT.
That brilliant piece of writing alone is a hit out of the park.
Last time I saw a ball hit that hard was Pujol’s blast off Brad Lidge in the 2005 playoffs.
