Washington (AFP) - Social media erupted in outrage and counter-attacks Friday after US comedian Stephen Colbert used language that mocked Asian Americans in what was intended as an anti-racist jibe.
Colbert, who is liberal but parodies a blustery conservative on his late night talk show, took aim at the Washington Redskins football team whose name is considered offensive by many Native Americans.
Colbert mocked team owner Dan Snyder who has announced a fund to support Native Americans while rejecting calls to change the name.

Note the references to Dungaree Doll and Seventeen.
I find that racial stereotypes are quite funny.
Americans have just become a bunch of I’m offended drones of some sort.
Probably not. Not just dumb, but self-genocidal.
The problems aren’t with the offenders but with the offended.
Hell, I’m not offended by being called a cracker and can’t really think of a single word that could offend me.
: )
You're welcome.
Quintessential Clint Eastwood AND a good life lesson.
My great grandfather was a Polish Jew who picked up the nickname “Frenchy” somewhere along the line.
Fluctuations.
Yes, AFTER progressives get their noses rubbed good and hard in the s&*^ pile they've left in our society.
The ‘audience’ which includes blacks and latinos laughs hysterically, and the whites in the audience are socially required to laugh to show they are not racist. This is because ‘society’ - Obama/Democrat/Liberal/Media political correctness dictate they can say NOTHING precisely because they are BORN racist and have no say in the matter because they are white. Pathetic duplicity and hypocrisy at its worst.
And, it is this allowance for hypocrisy that prompts their young to focus on and target unsuspecting whites as the bad fall-guy for all their problems. In the end, we have the Knockout Game, black teenager feral mobs and dozens of other manifestations. And in that same end, I have a 45 ACP 1911 with backup magazines with me at all times.
LOL!!!
Too funny.
Luv that movie.
If Stephen Colbert isn’t fired by his network for his anti-Asian comments, as Don Imus and Paula Deen were for their anti-Black comments, it will prove that Asian-Americans are, in fact, unfairly discriminated against, as they contend.
If Stephen Colbert gets to keep his job, it will be because the media considers an anti-Black ‘’nappy-headed’’ joke an outrageous offense while an Anti-Asian joke is acceptable.
As for the Washington football team, American Indians have themselves accepted the term ‘’Native Americans’’ to describe themselves, so why doesn’t the owner of the Washington team change its name to the Washington Native Americans?
Asians do have a right to freedom of speech. They have a right to speak out when they are disrespected.
If Blacks have a right to racial grievances, then so should people of all races. Otherwise, no one should.
I have not seen the "right to racial grievances" anywhere in the Constitution. Problem is, liberals assume that there is such a right for "protected" minorities, and they use this supposed right as a means to suppress the non-protected races.
I don't think (most) Asians are looking for "protected" status. They just want to expose the hypocrisy of granting it to one race and not the others.
Perhaps Caucasian-Americans should join them in their quest to expose the double standard.
This has tickled my funny bone this morning :D
thanks!
Another good friend is Armenian whom I called a Monophysite Heretic, it got him interested in his heritage and he appropriated all my books on Byzantium to research his families past.
Yes. The people who keep voting them into office.
My Hispanic friend named Charlie who I call my chocolate chip chewing Chicano chum.
Indeed; this has become the Age of Taking Offense. Whatever happened to the philosophy of "sticks and stones"? Shows as recent as "Seinfeld" could probably not be made today because it would offend this or that group.
