...Jonathan Sabin of Bradenton's Local Group of Deep Sky Observers has met Tyson, and said he's a "gigantic presence."
"The guy is one of the most engaging people I've ever met," Sabin said. "He walks in and he just owns the room."
On "Cosmos," though, Tyson comes off as a stiff, even bland. He's reading someone else's words -- specifically, those of Ann Druyan, Sagan's widow and the co-writer of the original "Cosmos" -- and so far it's not working...

All this junk science Hindenberg needs now is a guest appearance from Bill Nye the Anus Guy
Why is it junk science?
Just interested to know if it improved.
Didn’t like the use of cartoons, looked like something out of Scoobie Doo!
So I’m not the only one who’s underwhelmed by the remake? The original inspired me to become an astronomer. I forgot to watch the remake by the third episode.
I don’t like the cartoons either. It cheapens the show.
I disagree. I think it’s fascinating. And I think Tyson is doing a good job.
I’ve seen every episode and I’m enjoying it.
Silly cartoons, mixed in with attacks on religion and faith.
No, thanks. I’ll pass.
The original Cosmos had a great musical score!
I gave up on it last week. Really disappointed, but not surprised. It fits the times we live in. A thin veneer of cgi and nothing of substance beneath it.
The wife and I really like it. *shrug*
The cartoons are... unbelievably bad. I mean, really, Matt Groening is one of the producers, it looks like something he put together on his iPad while in another meeting. An awful flash cutaway scene in the middle of a cheap Facebook game, hardly worthy of being on network television.
The continued links back to Sagan are just frustrating. The first episode’s were great, but that should have been the end of it. Instead it is coming across as a tribute show, rather than a continuation of the series.
Just poorly conceived from start to finish.
Did you see the original? The original was inspiring you could actually learn something from it. Tyson just looked goofy in the 2 episodes I saw, and was frankly dull. The article is right on the mark. He is reading someone else’s words and it shows.
he’s certainly been able to insult people extremely effectively.
yup. the God-deniers can keep it for themselves. they’ve got it all figured out.
