An Australian woman discovered her pet dog had been eaten by a snake in the most gruesome possible way after finding a bloated python lying curled in its kennel with the end of the dog's chain still dangling from its mouth.
Amazingly, the wildlife-lover had only chained her Chihuahua-Maltese cross overnight to stop it disturbing native animals near her Caniaba home in northern NSW, but it meant there was no escaping the 2.5-metre python that slithered into the kennel.
When the woman went outside to let the dog off its chain the following morning, she discovered the bloated snake curled up inside the kennel. The end of the chain was protruding from its mouth.
Things got worse for the shocked pet owner when she realised the chain that had been keeping her dog in its kennel was now ensuring the giant snake couldnt get away either.

Nah.
If I hadn’t seen her hit me, I wouldn’t have even noticed it until it bled.
It was the biggest nothing, ever.
The snake people regularly show off their newest wounds and we laugh about them.
I was more concerned that one of her teeth had been damaged by biting me.
She was fine.

Snakes are very useful creatures most of the time. IIRC, Florida is having some problems with some non-indigenous snakes that were apparently released there. That is not a good thing.
I’m always happy to see our garter/indigenous snakes here, because they eat slugs, leeches, lizards, ants, and rodents. They’re also the state snake of Massachusetts.
She’s beautiful. My roommate in college had a boa. He was a nice pet.
:)
The FL issue is greatly exaggerated.
The cold winters have killed or sickened the majority of the snakes that actually were there.
Loss of habitat, toxins from farm runoff and drained wetlands providing water for massive overdevelopment is what is really killing off the indigenous wildlife but nobody is gonna stop building the swamp McMansions so something has to shoulder the blame.
What better than evil, loathsome snakes?
Even the Everglades park rangers have tried to tell people the “python threat” is not what we’re told.
Follow the agenda.
The greater problem is the monitors, iguanas and non-native birds that actually *are* taking over FL.
But they’re cute so nobody cares much.
Pinky is my favorite.
If not for the obvious logistical issues, I would take him everywhere I went.
I really think he does not perceive himself as a snake but more of a funny looking, limb-impaired dog..:)
We don’t have a state snake.
Just a “state reptile”, the Diamondback Terrapin.
What a gyp.

Nevermind that the wildlife woman praises this dog owner for her procedure.
I tire of blaming these owners so much. Truly I don’t know exactly what was happening here, but the only blame I can see is having the dog outside. Why, they don’t say, but maybe there was a good reason for it.
She lost her dog. Cut her a break, FGS, and she didn’t even butcher the snake, as some of us probably would on perfectly understandable natural reaction.
My husband always had two dogs. Two, so they would never be alone...and they were good buddies.
I would REALLY like to see the death penalty, WITH "cruel and unusual punishment" for people who mistreat ANY animal.
One appropriate punishment: having to listen to Ethel Merman sing "There's NO Business Like Show Business" for an hour. Worse punishment=listening to her longer.
Beyond that, I've got too much stupid in my past and future and am not qualified to judge her, though I appreciate the thought. She might be one where the guilt is more than enough. Stupid can't be fixed, they say, but wisdom most often comes with a high price.
I agree with your husband and think that, social creatures that they are, dogs need other dogs. Personally, I couldn't handle more than two. I think they each need to feel like they belong to someone and someone to them and I'm maxed out at two.
That is just creepy...on all levels.
Poor dog...and poor snake.
We all do stupid things but we HOPE to minimize them after youth. But some stupids do it all their life. THEY are to be avoided...no matter how "easy" or cute they might be.
=================================
Whatever my husband said about dogs, I believed him. ALL dogs loved him. He had a way with animals.
I used to bribe them (doggies) with freeze dried liver bits. Lol. I also have long fingernails and KNOW where doggies like the big scratch. So doggies like me to, but for very different reasons. :o) WOOF!!!
Poor dog. Poor snake. Idiot owner.
Thanks! ;-)
My daughter thinks people that are afraid of snakes are pansies. I tend to agree.
Her and one of her boas...
Adorable girl and lovely hypo!
[you know some people will be even ~more~ scared of “poison garters”, now]
;)
I noticed an odd thing at the last Halloween party I went to.
Women swarmed Vera and begged to hold her and have their pictures taken with her.
All but a few men freaked out.
Almost seems a bit Freudian.
;]
Yup.
I’ve noticed that as well. Women are more likely to become accustomed to snakes then men are. Personally, I like snakes more than most people.
Snakes are very “Zen”.
I could watch mine slithering around for hours.
Last night, Jake was rambling around his condo, climbing up and down and just generally exploring.
Except for the one time he mis-wrapped his tail and fell off his deck, it was so relaxing and very graceful.
:)
