Is the Cold Fusion Revolution Here? Published March 8, 2014 |

There seems to be a lot happening in the world of cold fusion/low energy nuclear reaction (LENR) right now. So we can now rightly say that a cold fusion revolution could be beginning.

Some of the most important developments include:

Peter Hagelstein and Mitchell Swartz’s 2014 Cold Fusion Independent Activities Period (IAP) Course at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in January. Jerry Rys the Alien Scientist blogger attended the course and created a great video about it which does an excellent job of describing cold fusion what cold fusion is and laying out its early history. In particular Rys does a tremendous job of describing the science in such a way that even a history major like me could understand.

He doesn’t seem to be up on recent developments but hopefully that will change. The video is worth watching and showing to cold fusion skeptics. He also makes one important point:

Mitchell Swartz at work

“While critics and skeptics like to call cold fusion pathological science in light of recent events it seems that their denial is pathological,” Rys says of the skeptics. Rys seems to hit the nail on the head here. Rys has posted all of Swartz and Hagelstein’s lectures on his website.

He notes that Swartz started out as a skeptic who was out to debunk LENR. After doing some real research Swartz became a true believer and recently launched NANORTech a company working to commercialize cold fusion. Swartz has essentially been blacklisted by big science they’ll probably forgive him when he makes a billion dollars.

The IAP is really a set of lectures and not a course. There is no credit attached, Hagelstein himself noted that working in LENR can destroy your scientific career in Big Science.

Scenes from the 2014 MIT Cold Fusion IAP

Yet another cold fusion patent has been granted by the US Patent Office to Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. USA.

EP 1202290 B1 issued on December 4, 2013, issues a patent for a “Nuclide Transmutation Device and Nuclide Transmutation Method” which would be used as a disposal process for long lived nuclear waste.

The US Patent Office it seems has quietly changed its mind about cold fusion and one of the world’s largest corporations is interested in it. I wonder what the big oil conspiracy theorists will make of this.

NASA is still showing a lot of interest in LENR aircraft. Its Aeronautics Research Institute discussed an LENR aircraft. A slide from the conference shows a giant aircraft called a comfortable global transport with a flight range of 12,500 miles and minimal noise pollution. It also mentions an autonomous package delivery package in other words a drone. That sounds like the US Air Force is interested in LENR.

Over in the United Kingdom Her Majesty’s military like the Pentagon is also interested in LENR. A PDF document put out by the UK’s Ministry of Defense called Global Strategic Trends Out to 2040 actually mentions LENR as something that strategists should worry about. It states:

“For example, the development of commercially available cold fusion reactors could result in the rapid economic marginalization of oil-rich states. This loss of status and income in undiversified economies could lead to state-failure and provide opportunities for extremist groups to rise in influence.”

Basically British generals and admirals think a new energy source is about to appear and that energy source will cause the collapse of states and governments reliant on oil profits such as Venezuela, Nigeria Saudi Arabia and Russia. It names that energy source as cold fusion.

That means the cold fusion revolution will be neither peaceful nor entirely beneficial. It will bankrupt some people and could increase political instability. The military men it seems believe in cold fusion if the so called scientists do not.

Taleyarkhan (the sonofusion guy whose research was said to be fake but wasn't) in the news again.

This guy has a target painted on his back.

Federal Investigations Reveal Academic Backstabbing at Purdue University (Part 1)

Jan. 20, 2014 – By Steven B. Krivit –

Summary

Physics is a contact sport, as the saying goes, and Rusi Taleyarkhan, a professor in the Purdue University School of Nuclear Engineering, learned that the hard way.

His scientific research, if it is ever independently replicated, may lead to a clean-energy technology. But his nascent research efforts have been scuttled.

“Afterwards, he cut open both and they were hollow although the active one had hydrogen in it.”

According to Craven’s report, he only cut open the active sphere and it wasn’t hollow.

“Your recollection is correct. That is precisely Cravens NI setup. Both spheres were immersed in a heated sand bath and their temperatures monitored. “

He only cut one open, it wasn’t hollow and it was an aluminum bead bath.

You recollection is incorrect.

You're right, according to the pdf I found, it wasn't hollow, this is from the pdf (the italicized part).

I looked for this yesterday and couldn't find it, it's a good read.

I don't know how accurate this pdf is since it says the spheres are in a silver bead bath, not water but it then says in the same pdf that the beads were aluminum???

The control sphere only had sand in it according to the same article that I have excerpted below.

The setup is pretty simple but if you wanted to deceive someone, it could be done, but why? Cravens' has a PhD so why would he throw all that away to fake something? Rossi's so called PhD was from a diploma mill so he has nothing to lose and has a criminal history. Then again, Randall Mills from Black Light Power has a chemical engineering degree and an MD from Harvard and has raked in over $60 million dollars which is a pretty good incentive but I think Mills believes he has something, why try to write a TOE if he doesn't so what would Cravens' reason for fraud be?

So what is in that warm golden ball? It contains an activated carbon that holds metal alloy within its pores, some magnetic powder, some hydrogen storage material and some deuterium gas. It is thought that the heat is coming from the fusion of deuterium nuclei to go to helium. However, there are as many ideas of the exact reaction as there are theorists. What is clear is the mixture produces heat because the sample sphere in it is warmer than the control sphere containing a little sand. The two spheres are in a highly conductive bath of aluminum beads in a constant temperature bath designed to be uniform and to hold the temperature constant.

In this article, in the first sentence, there's a link to the pdf under, "full length article".

Ever heard of ‘crowd funding’?

“Randall Mills from Black Light Power”

Who has raised over SIXTY MILLION in funds since 1991 and has failed to deliver on any of its claims!

What is his source of income?

I had to look up crowd funding. Yes, it’s possible.

I looked for Cravens’ CV and haven’t found it but I didn’t have much time. All I’ve read is that he is a research scientist so this wouldn’t be the first time someone cooked the books to get funding. The demo was at an NI conference and I would hope there were people skeptical enough to look into the demo and see if there were any shenanigans and haven’t read of any.

I’m a 1/3 of the way through the book Excess Heat and I’m surprised at some of the things I’ve read that I never heard of. Since I have a ways to go I’m not going to comment any more except that it is very interesting and again, there’s a lot of things I never heard of happening in it.

More than possible. Cravens is actively soliciting.

You can buy a lot of integrity for $60 million dollars.

When I first heard of Mills and BLP, I had a friend who is a chemical engineer look into his claims and he said there was no way that what Mills claimed was happening.

I though at first that Mills genuinely thought he had something and that he figured with enough time he could jump the technological hurdles but his actions make him seem Rossiesque.

He got a lot of his funding from energy companies. The problem was that his friend, whose exact name I forget so I won’t guess worked at an energy company and is where Mills got some of his millions. After the company saw what he had done, they fired him and where does he land but at Rowan U where Mills BLP process is supposedly peer reviewed. He also does things like renting equipment from Harvard and getting someone from Harvard to run it and then it’s twisted into Harvard verified that his BLP process worked and on and on.

That is why Rossi getting $11 million doesn’t, in my mind, prove the E-cat works. The people who gave him that money seem to be the type that expect something out of it though. You would think that they should have done a lot of due diligence but who knows when the unlimited amount of money that a working e-cat would be worth is shimmering in their mind.

I still don’t know why the big BLP event from January 28 turned out to be a non-event. I expected some kind of demo that appeared to work on the surface but nothing happened and it appears that BLP wants to forget about it.

The only source for that $11 million figure is from Jennifer who posts a blog site that is reposted here by Kevmo.

I love that when you point out the weakness of their post/argument, they feel harassed.

Doesn't seem very conservative to me.

I’m sorry, your hyperbole is not convincing.

Consistent reproducible experiments are part of scientific proof whether you wish it or not.

Let's see... four months from the end of November is... March 2014. They're not even LATE. I worked for "legitimate" organizations that were 18 months late with their product. Were those publicly traded companies FRAUDS? NO. They were just late.

But the cold fusion boys, they're 50 years out, not 3 months out. Now THOSE GUYS are frauds. And where is your concern for that level of hundred-$million fraud of tAX money? Non existent.
