I am done. This site has broken me. I am as staunch a conservative as you will find. After returning from Iraq, injured and upset, I turned here and found a welcoming community that shared my thoughts. I am a proud Gadsden Flag waiving man of the Tea Party movement. But because I don't think Sarah Palin is as historically important as other GOP women in the past, I am now considered an idiot, a RINO, ass-kisser and whatever negative connotation you can throw my way. This site has changed so much since that dictator want to be became President it sickens me. It's lost its sense of community and has ran off many a good person. Heck even the Tea Party seems to be distorted here.
My plank filled eye sees clearly enough that if you take lib positions you are a lib. If you trash someone for no reason, you are a lib.
I also find it amusing that people run to scripture and cherry pick it. Look up the verses about false witness and apply them to the PDS brigade then get back to me.

I would probably say (only half jokingly) there was something wrong with you if you didn't agree she is a pretty hot mama, but whatever opinion one has about her historical impact isn't terribly important at this stage of the game, it just is what it is. I would differ fiercely with those who are just spreading hate to spread hate, but I don't think that's you.

There are some truly nasty people that post on this site. It was fun in the 90s, but not so much now.
Used to be (yes, I was here in the 90's) I felt I was among friends. Goals were pretty much the same all around, but tactics varied, and it was in everyone's interest to discuss those in a friendly manner regardless of disagreements. No more. Now it's mostly about labels.

Oh, my yes. Those were some real flame wars. I tell new FReepers that the place is genteel now compared to the Wild West days. I don't think most of them believe that, but it's true.

Well, there was that one time that Deb finally got fed up with A+Bert and called him a "urine-soaked old rummy". I hurt myself laughing.
But I would suggest to you that FR still has many advantages that make it worthwhile:
1.FR is a superb source of news, hard news..when something happens, momentous or trivial, anywhere in the world, you can usually read about it here first,and find out what's really going on.
2. As a group, Freepers are without a doubt the most knowledgeable people on earth. You can almost instantly find the answer to just about any question.
3. FR proves every day that conservatives are among the funniest people around, with a superb sense of humor. And we need that to cope with the ever increasing mess around us.
So, what's a guy/gal to do?
Actually, it's quite easy. It's something I decided to do about 10 years ago.
Anyone who's ever received an obscene phone call will tell you that the single most effective technique to deal with it is to ignore them, quickly hang up. Don't respond, don't yell, don't curse...that's what they want, they get off on it. Ignore them, and they'll go away..turn their attention to someone else.
The same applies here, and works equally well. When someone calls you out, says something dumb, whatever...ignore them. Don't bother to respond, don't try to convince them..show them the error of their thinking. You can't open a closed mind. Don't even waste your time.
Enjoy FR for the many advantages. Engage in discourse with those you respect, whose comments you appreciate, who can teach you something. Post what you will, and respond to those you choose. Ignore all the others.
