I once stayed in a hotel in the rural Philippines that had a communal bathroom down the hall. If you missed the door and walked too far you were outside in a chicken coop. Actually I thought it was kinda cool...
I’m familiar with the yellow water. Apparently it is not limited to Sochi. I had it in my 3-star hotel in St Petersburg. I assume it’s from rusty pipes, although that may not be all.

Interesting way that Yahoo and other “news” agencies have taken to cirumventing copyright issues when they want to use someone else’s photos and not pay for them. Just link to the photographer’s twitter feeds.

I was in Krasnaya Polyana two years ago for a conference. Gorky Gorod didn’t exist back then. They were just starting to lay out the foundations, etc. To build all this in two years is pretty good - especially when you consider that there was just a two lane road winding up the mountain. BTW, the scenery is impressive. They were building a high speed train that runs from the “coastal cluster” up the riverbed (and tunneled through several mountains) to reach Krasnaya Polyana.
Not saying that there is no blame to go around, but I think the media is nitpicking because of Russia’s opposition to homosexuals sodomizing it’s boys.
Someone should check to make sure that those gold medals have real gold in them.
