Realistic statue of man in underwear freaks out women's college

300 students have signed a petition to have the creepy, yet lifelike statue removed.

In part, the petition reads;

"This highly realistic sculpture has, within just a few hours of its outdoor installation, become a source of apprehension, fear, and triggering thoughts regarding sexual assault for many members of our campus community.

While it may appear humorous, or thought-provoking to some, it has already become a source of undue stress for many Wellesley College students, the majority of whom live, study, and work in this space."

The Boston Globe reports the piece is called "Sleepwalker," it was put up to bring attention to the work of a sculptor named Tony Matelli.

Proper revenge would be to make a realistic statue of a woman in underwear and put it on the campus of a men's college.

It’s the “man in underwear” part that freaks out the Wellesley...er, (alleged) women. If it had been a sculpture of alumna “Hillary in underwear,” they would howl, bark, and bray with approval.

I submit that it is a GIRLS college, not a WOMENS college. These are little girls, not adult enough to deal with a statue. Maybe they need to go home to mommy and their therapist.

I worked for Campbell-Ewald when we made a tv spot where a shirtless football fan is frozen and is carried off by his friends after the game ends.

The life sized prop created for this spot was incredibly lifelike and was stored inside the agency. Even though you know it's fake I can't begin to tell you how unnerving it was to get close to it. You always got the feeling it really was somebody and could spring to life at any moment.
