TORONTO Archaeologists working near the ancient settlement of Edfu, in southern Egypt, have uncovered a step pyramid that dates back about 4,600 years, predating the Great Pyramid of Giza by at least a few decades.

That rock formation was not merely boring, it was actually impeding the Mars Rover's progress across the surface of the planet in search of evidence of life. Fortunately, the obstacle was easily removed by a few strategically placed explosive charges. Here's the "after" photo of the same location:

My guess is that these non-functional (at least for burials) pyramids were border markers..............
