Meatball will head to the Companion Pet Clinic in Gold Canyon, Ariz., today, where Gable said he will get the full feline fat farm treatment, which includes a diet and exercise plan supervised by veterinarians.
Once he gets down to a weight they think is manageable, they will help find Meatball a new home, Gable said.

Meatball, a Phoenix feline, weighs 36 pounds (dropped off at animal shelter)
I hope they are slimming him down VERY gradually.
This current article also mentioned another poor overweight cat Buddha, that was exercised extensively, but died a few months later due to "heart problems". For either pets or people slimming down has to be very gradual and must not be over-exercised, because it puts too much stress on their heart.
Hopefully, since this one will be supervised by veterinarians, they will be more careful.
kittyping — update on Meatball
Our vet keeps ragging on us to slim down our Siamese, but it is hard as he is an indoor cat with limited exercise opportunity. We give him low calorie food and watch that he does not overeat, but he is not losing much of anything.
One of the greatest problems facing America today is feline obesity.
If someone made and sold stuffed toy cats similar to Meatball and Meowcat I think they’d sell well.
I would like to get on the kitty ping list. Thank you.
Kidney damage is what gets a lot of cats who have sudden weight loss.
You’re added.
Thanks.
When I went to the NY Daily news article about Meatball, who has beautiful tabby markings, there were a bunch of teases for articles about Gov. Christie.

Natural mistake.
I would not want to be around a cat that’s being starved.
Perked up, hell! He was freaking hungry!
He’s been at the animal control center for a year and eating diet food. Either he’s been sneaking into the mouse cages at night or someone is lying about the diet.
One of the greatest problems facing America today is feline obesity....We need Federal subsidies!! I will not rest until we limit cat food! We need to march! (My cat will rip my leg off,...but).
Chef Chou Lin, down at the Blue Moon Cafe, was overheard muttering: “Nice fat cat! Feed my customers many meal!”
Actually it is hepatic lipidosis or “fatty liver” that sets in and kills cats with sudden weight loss.

*shrug* Po-TAY-to, po-TAH-to.
