Update on previous article:

Meatball, a Phoenix feline, weighs 36 pounds (dropped off at animal shelter)

I hope they are slimming him down VERY gradually.

This current article also mentioned another poor overweight cat Buddha, that was exercised extensively, but died a few months later due to "heart problems". For either pets or people slimming down has to be very gradual and must not be over-exercised, because it puts too much stress on their heart.

Hopefully, since this one will be supervised by veterinarians, they will be more careful.

I can imagine how hard this is to do without upsetting the cat's system. Have read how sudden diet changes can kill cats.

Our vet keeps ragging on us to slim down our Siamese, but it is hard as he is an indoor cat with limited exercise opportunity. We give him low calorie food and watch that he does not overeat, but he is not losing much of anything.

One of the greatest problems facing America today is feline obesity.

If someone made and sold stuffed toy cats similar to Meatball and Meowcat I think they’d sell well.

I would not want to be around a cat that’s being starved.
