Start-up purchases controversial cold fusion nuclear reactor E-cat - Let's see if it works

01/26/2014

A North Carolina based company called Industrial Heat LLC has come out and admitted that it now owns Andrea Rossi’s ecat low energy nuclear reaction (LENR) technology. Industrial Heat has put out a press release in which it confirmed rumors that it had spent $11 million to purchase Rossi’s device.

The press release also confirmed speculation that Tom Darden of Cherokee Investment Partners a North Carolina equity fund is a principal investor in Industrial heat. It stated that one of Darden’s associates J.T. Vaughn is the manager of Industrial Heat LLC. Industrial Heat LLC is based in the Research Triangle region around Raleigh, North Carolina where many technology companies have operations. Cherokee’s website describes Vaughn as a Senior Analyst at the firm.

Vaughn said that his company had acquired the intellectual property rights to the Ecat in the press release. Vaughn and Darden were convinced of the Ecat’s authenticity by a report prepared by physics professors Guiseppe Levi, Hanno Essen, Ronald Petterson, Torbojorn Hartman, Bo Hoistad, Roland Pettersson and Lars Tegner. The scientists tested the ecat in December 2012 and March 2013 and observed its operations. Vaughn and Darden also had an unidentified independent expert exam the ecat before investing their money in it.

The press release stated that Industrial Heat has prepared numerous patent applications to protect ecat technology but wouldn’t’ elaborate. The release didn’t say if any of these applications have been filed or not.

“The world needs a new, clean and efficient energy source,” Vaugh said of his reasons for acquiring Ecat in the press release. “Such a technology would raise the standard of living in developing countries and reduce the environmental impact of producing energy.”

The press release stated that Industrial Heat wants to enter into partnerships with other companies, universities and nongovernment organizations (NGOs) to develop LENR technology. It didn’t identify any of these partners or mention any specific uses for Ecat technology.

Predictably and sadly the cold fusion skeptics have already started attacking Industrial Heat. The Gizmodo blog is claiming that Darden and Vaughn were bamboozled and bought a reactor that might not actually work. Typically the skeptics provide absolutely no proof for their accusations they just make them and hope nobody questions their statements. Those who criticize Rossi for not verifying claims turn around and do exactly the same thing.

Tom Darden

Vaughn and Darden seem like hardhead and sensible businessmen who have done their homework. They actually looked into Ecat and got the facts before investing. Gizmodo mentions Rossi’s criminal conviction but doesn’t mention the involvement of distinguished professors such as Guiseppe Levi in the ecat project.

Industrial Heat’s confirmation is very good news, despite the skeptics. It’s the biggest investment so far in cold fusion and it proves there are far sighted businessmen interested in commercializing this important technology. Hopefully Industrial Heat will be able to commercialize the Ecat and looking into other LENR devices such asthose at Brillouin.

I also hope that Industrial Heat’s brave stand will inspire other investors to put their money behind low energy nuclear reaction. We need massive investment in this technology now.

” as does NASA, which has research underway into LENR as a way to power aircraft”

No. If you do your research you will find that Doug specifically excludes any research into LENR. In fact he has not even reviewed the tests on LENR to date. He has reviewed for papers and concluded that there are none that are peer reviewed and published.

” More broadly, the Italian justice system is so badly run and corrupt that it tends to inspire wide-scale dishonesty”

Yep. Rossi thought that he could get away with fraud against the Italian government. I guess he didn’t pay the right people enough money!

NASA comments that it would require thermoelectric conversion with an efficiency of less than 10%, That would be 200kw in .... 80kw out.

You miss my point. Rossi's account, as best as I can sort it out from fragmentary sources, is that he got in with bad business partners who left him holding the bag in bankruptcy. This is not implausible. Even in the US, the plenary power of bankruptcy judges invites abuses.

A businessman friend of mine of some local standing once got a corrupt bankruptcy judge ousted. As the trustee in a major bankruptcy, he investigated some suspicious transactions and found evidence of gross misconduct by the judge, including perjury, the filing of false documents, and bribery, all with the purpose of looting the bankrupt company that he was administering.

When the judicial misconduct authorities did nothing, my friend put down $25,000 for a full page ad in the Sunday Atlanta Constitution detailing the matter and gave an advance copy to the senior local federal judge. The bankruptcy judge was off the bench within 48 hours and the ad never ran.

As my friend explained, the circumstances were such that he feared that if he did not act as he did, he would have been blamed and potentially prosecuted for permitting theft from the company, not the criminal associates of the bankruptcy judge.

I'll spare you other examples of my personal knowledge. You need not even rely on my word that such things happen. Take a look at Juan March's takeover of the the Barcelona Traction, Light, and Power Company (BTLP) using a corrupt bankruptcy proceeding. The unjust and illegal nature of March's predation was blatant and never remedied. The March family is today the wealthiest family in Spain.

Can you provide a link to substantiate your account of NASA’s comments?

Rossi and his ‘business partners’ in multiple schemes have never produced anything but fraud.

Doug says that he has not even reviewed anything about LENR technology.

That assertion is far too sweeping and categorical. Moreover, as I have pointed out, the principals of the North Carolina venture capital fund checked Rossi’s background and had third party tests run on his E-Cat device. The result was that they acquired the rights to it and are developing it and intend to commercialize it.

“That assertion is far too sweeping and categorical.”

Translated: I know it is true but don’t want to admit it.

“I am having audio problems with my PC.”

So you admit that you post with reviewing what you are posting. Thank you for posting a link supporting my position that NASA is NOT doing any research on LENR.

Other websites have reported on the NASA research grant. I offered the grant as proof that NASA had an interest in LENR. Am I correct in my surmise that the video was before the grant was made, thus affecting the context of the remarks that you rely on?

Neither of us have seen the Italian court documents, and neither of us read Italian. Your views and comments calling Rossi a convicted fraud are based on a website that is hostile to him and that is written by someone who similarly does not have the Italian court documents and who also does not read Italian.

Nevertheless, if Rossi is a convicted fraud, even from the US, it ought not to take more than a few hundred to perhaps a thousand dollars to get a copy of the supposed Italian criminal court judgment and sentence against Rossi. Why has no one done this? Why have the critics of Rossi failed to obtain the best possible and most direct documentation against him?

Call me a stickler, but, before calling Rossi a convicted fraud, I would like to see the dispositive court documentation or at least a contemporaneous newspaper report of the judgment and sentence. I would even trust a dictionary or translation software or find someone who reads Italian to establish what the documents said.

I would also like to know what Rossi's side of controversy is and to test it against the documents in the Italian court file. In any event, if Rossi's E-Cat works, his prior legal troubles will be of little consequence.

Doug who is the NASA author says he has not even evaluated the various lenr tests since whether or not it works is irrelevant.

the eCat will be obsolete before it is shipped!

http://fcnp.com/2014/04/16/the-peak-oil-crisis-cold-fusion-update-2/

In an even more interesting development, BlackLight Power announced last week that they have designed and are patenting a device that can continuously produce the mini-explosions that occur as hydrogen atoms are converted into what BlackLight calls “hydrinos.” BlackLight says the blinding flashes resulting from these conversions, some 50,000 times brighter than the sun, have been directed onto solar cells to produce large amounts of electricity. They say they have designed a one-cubic-foot device that will produce 10 million watts of power. If this proves to be true, cold fusion may be obsolete before most know that it exists.

Did he say that as part of his pitch for research funds, or did he say it during his report of what his work under the grant accomplished?
