For those watching their weight, choosing a restaurant salad over a fast food burger may not be the wisest idea.
A restaurant meal that includes an appetizer, salad entrée and one side can contain an average of 1,494 calories, compared to a greasy McDonalds Big Mac Extra Value Meal that will set you back 1,130 calories, according to the Journal of Nutrition, Education and Behavior. [ ]
A Burger King Whopper with cheese, for example, has 710 calories. Comparatively, an Applebees Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad contains 800 calories and an Applebees Cheeseburger will set you back 940 calories.
Similarly, Chipotles Chicken Burrito Bowl can set you back on average 775 calories, but Chilis Fresh Mex Chicken Bowl contains 960 calories. Meanwhile a Chilis Trade Jalapeño Smokehouse Bacon Burger with Ranch comes in at a whopping 2, 210 calories.

Out here Hardee’s is Carl’s Jr., and I agree, they are the best of the big chains. In and Out is better quality, but no variety, just burgers, fries, shakes and soft drinks, but everything is freshly made in front of you. You can even watch them peel potatoes for the fries. After that Jack in the Box, and Wendy’s, IMHO. Personally I have never been a fan of Burger King. Try tasting one of their burgers without the bun and condiments. Tastes like an old dishrag (or at least what I imagine an old dishrag would taste like).
I confused some bar girls once with two dollar bills they thought were twenties.
Frisco Melt, french fries, and a chocolate malt or unsweet iced tea is my favorite Steak and Shake meal. Too bad the closest one is an hour away.
That’s one of my pet peeves. Less does not man fewer.
The person who bought the burgers apologized for buying the ones he bought - he didn't mean to buy the “King Kong” ones. You would have to have a double wide mouth to put a King Kong in your mouth - I had to eat it with a fork and it was so fine I can't describe it adequately.
I'm putting the menu on here so you can get an idea of what each burger is. Huntsville, Texas, is the home of Texas State Prison Huntsville, the largest one in Texas (can you say state executions). It's also home to Sam Houston State University, and that's why the names of these burgers are what they are. “Old Sparky” is the name of the electric chair that was used before chemicals took its place. In the early days, Texans were called Texicans.
I don't know the cost of these burgers and it doesn't matter because it is worth getting a loan at the bank to eat one. I'm putting the link on here so you can read on their website about the long history of Mr. Hamburger and the rest that is on there.
If you go there, on Hwy. 45 going north to Huntsville, before you get into Huntsville, you will see the multi-story tall white statue of Sam Houston towering over even the trees. You can go see the house where he lived after being president of the state. I think the title was president then before it joined the union (I see joining the union as a sad day now). :o)
This is the link to their home page http://mr-hamburger.com/home

How is it possible to go to Steak n Shake and NOT get the chili 5 ways?
Skyline Chili’s is better!
LOL No. Life is short. Eat good, die happy.
Great posting about some history of the Huntsville area and Mr. Hamburger. It’s after 2am and that menu listing just caused me to salivate! I really miss the flame broiled burgers and grilled, buttered buns that used to be common.
Sam Houston was President of the Republic of Texas.
Aside... Back in ‘50s the family went to Galveston every year for two weeks. We usually stopped at the Huntsville State Park for a break. One year, we filled a grocery sack with some of the Spanish moss from there. .....We lived on a corner and had about a dozen mimosa trees along the side street. We hung pieces of the moss in every tree. It was STILL living in those trees 20 years later.
I enjoy your postings.
Thanks so much, beautiful Marcella.
I want one of those, right now!
“I enjoy your postings.”
You are a real “Texican”. I enjoyed reading your page. Tyler is a lovely town. In my early life, I worked in Tyler. Always had to drive slowly during rain on the red brick streets in downtown. They were slick when wet.
The EM Club at NOB Norfolk used to sell "Rebelburgers", which were almost identical to the old Whopper, and even a touch bigger. My mouth still waters to think about them, and that was half a hundred years ago!
Never had it. We’re kind of chili-deprived in the mid-Atlantic region.
