Et Al - If you have both cats and dogs in you home, feel free to post pictures of them.
I remember the best dog we ever had. Old Richard was born in 1947 and died in 1956. At some times he was just unbelievable.
He did have one fault. He hated cats. We always had a few pet cats and us kids would try to make Richard make up with them.
He would take it for a little while as we put the cats up to his nose. Then after a few seconds we could tell he just couldn’t stand it any more and would put the cat up a tree.
There is the one important element in the article. My dog is 140 pounds from the time we got him at five months he was always told to leave the cats alone, now at five years old the cats bully him terribly.
Ridiculous. Our Aussie cattle dog was fine with our cats. We now have two Catahoulas that are the huntingest dogs you will ever see and they love our cats. They even love the new stray kittens we have brought home.
Dogs are like kids. They will act like you raise them. Properly adjusted dogs will follow the pack leaders lead.
Heck, we even have a German Shepherd that was an Air Force security dog. She had never dealt with cats and had no idea that she was not supposed to eat them. She learned and now cleans the newest kitten. She gets along with all of the other cats as well.
I dislocated my shoulder wrestling a feral cat fron my pit bulls jaws.
I would definitely expand on this list. On the other hand, there are several breeds who are trained to *not* kill, but do other things, that would likely be fine with cats, even if they annoyed them.
I’m a particular breed that can’t live around democrats.
B.S. article. Very dog is a law unto itself.....generalities do not apply here.
I had what looked like a flat hair retriever, and a cat. They would cuddle and nap together for 14 years. But when a strange dog or cat crossed the yard, they they would both react no mater which species was there at the time. On the cat’s part we would have displaced aggression, but the dog would only bark. 5 minutes later they would be buddies again.
They've obviously never met my cat.
We have a Schnauzer / Poodle mix who hates cats but respects claws. He leaves the cats alone after some unfortunate experiences. He is a real wuss. On the other hand, we have a Boston Bull who loves everybody including the cats who return the affection.
I would definitely not recommend Alaskan Malamutes as compatible with small furry animals. Actually, large furry animals (other than dogs) might not be a good idea either. Our Malamute loves other dogs (except Great Danes for some reason) and people, but everything thing else is potential dinner.
