Lead Mars Exploration rover scientist Steve Squyres describes the rock as looking like a large jelly donut, explaining:
It looks white around the edge in the middle and theres a low spot in the center thats dark red it looks like a jelly doughnut.
The instruments on NASA's Opportunity rover that are analyzing the rock are sending back to Earth data that is as mysterious as the jelly donut-like rock itself. Squyres says:
Its like nothing weve ever seen before. Its very high in sulphur, its very high in magnesium, its got twice as much manganese as weve ever seen in anything on Mars."

I tell you, this is no way to sell vacuum cleaners. The dirt is still there in the after picture along with somebody’s half-eaten bagel with cream cheese.

the white looks like the underside of the red rock around it. the red could come from a layer of dust.

Does that come with or without the Earth-shattering “Kaboom!”?

looking at the two pictures it looks as if some of the other small rocks have moved. I think the wind bounced in something maybe off the rover.

Its a Marshroom! Yes, it is. And it obviously grew from the slight pattern that was there before it appeared. NASA knows this - they're just talking right past everyone's lying eyes, and everyone is obediently suspending their disbelief.
Government shills must just marvel at how easily all their crap actually works on people.

It’s a crumpled pack of Lucky Strikes.
There should be some butts nearby.

Perhaps this originated on the rover. An artifact that has ridden on the rover and finally fell off? Something that was part of the descent apparatus that blew off the shroud? Like the metallic cover to a one of the bolts that has an explosive charge to shear it and release a shroud or cover? The heat might deform it, the cherry center would be the burned residue of the charge?
