The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. Just trying to think of something to freestand or attach to the wall to help with the rose trellis. My first thought was they were along a wooden fence but then you said wall so brick fence or are they along your house wall? No shade there from the afternoon sun?
Jan 31st is my date for planting the seed from 2013. That's what I sent you.

FRESH LEMON PIE
3 eggs well beaten
3/4 cup sugar
3 Tablespoons flour
3/4 cup white Karo syrup
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter or margarine, melted
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
Grated rind of 1 lemon
Mix well and pour into unbaked pie crust, bake at 375 for 35-40 min. Check with toothpick at 35 min. and bake longer if necessary so toothpick comes out clean.
Naturally, I used premade pie crust from grocery store.
This recipe is so old, it uses the term “Oleo” for the margarine. I haven't heard the word, “Oleo”, in a very long time.
My grandmother’s recipes, the ones she handwrote, all call for oleo.
I miss my grandmother. And her cooking.
The two rose climbers are against the back wall. That wall is made of wood with a white wood trellis nailed to it. He put a spacer between the wall and trellis so there would be a little space between the trellis and the wall so plants could send limbs through that space.
The tall brick walls are on the two sides of the garden, not across the back. The back wall and trellis get killer hot in the summer here. I read about that condition and it also happens in Arizona. It says the plants are “scorched” by the sun and they die. I saw pictures of that in Arizona and those scorched plants looked like my dead rose vines.
Ooooooooh, you sweetie! I’ve been craving all things lemon for a couple of months and here you are with a tried-and-true recipe! Is it a two-cruster, one topped with whipped cream or meringue, or too good to adulterate with anything else? I’m also thinking of lemon-curd-filled doughnuts, but I’ve never made lemon curd before. The cat almost let me near enough to refill the water bowl while he was eating earlier. Ran off a few feet but was back immediately when I set it down. He's talkative and very friendly as long as he has some distance. OTOH, the Empress of the Universe is going to have a great deal of unwanted distance if she doesn't quit stomping on the keyboard, trying to knock me out of the chair and hollering because I won't give her the entire bag of treats. Her latest trick is trying supernatural kinetic energy to open the desk drawer that holds the treats - wooooo, I command thee to OPEN!
The other is a feral rescue. He still runs away when I stand up, and I've had him for over 4 years. But he will come into my lap when I'm sitting down.
And of course, they both know how to dance on my bladder at 0400. Grrr.

No,, it is not two crusts or I wouldn’t have made it. Pie crust is like outer space to me - could never make one that was fit to use and I can’t get a pie crust on top of a pie that looks decent, either - that is like Mars to me.
I have tamed some feral cats..It usually took about three or four days, and lots of venison steaks, sliced thinly, and barely cooked..
And yeah, I employ the slow blink method, too.

I learned how to make a really easy pie crust that is nobody’s idea of a good, classic one, but you can handle it as much as you like and it never gets tough. You cut in half as much shortening (I use butter) as flour, half as much water as butter, mix it ‘til it sticks together, roll it out on a floured surface and transfer it to a pie plate. (I roll it out on one of those flexible cutting boards and then put the pie plate on top of it and turn the whole thing upside down.) Somewhere along in the process, toss some salt with the flour, and if you want something that reminds you of a cookie, toss in some sugar at the beginning. Just remember to shield the edges with aluminum foil. The only pie crust recipe I’ve ever really thought turned out well was the one from the Crisco label forty or fifty years ago. It’s all about the filling, for goodness’ sake! Thanks again!

Our new poodle pup(4mo) seems to like keyboarding, too.
She knows how to sit up and beg for treats. One day my wife was showering, and the puppy wanted to find her by going down a hallway that had the door closed. I looked over there just in time to see her sit up and beg for the door to open. LOL
Ok, this is the house wall that gets the blast of afternoon sun? Plastic lattice will be hotter than wooden lattice. Your idea of cane shouldn’t hold much heat but make sure they aren’t sprayed with a finish. Perhaps paint the trellis a tan or gray because white is reflective. Not black as it holds heat. Of course, if your house is white then that’s a whole wall reflecting onto them (hey, re-paint your house!). Maybe the the spacer needs to be doubled to increase air flow behind. If the roof overhangs above them, maybe run natural twine from the eaves to the ground and move it out a few inches more from the house. Could they be moved to the back fence? Perhaps plant something tall along the back fence that would give shade in late afternoon. A last resort, if you have room on the sides of the house, would be to create a side garden though they won’t be enjoyed there unless there’s room for a sitting area.
