The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.
I have thought about using egg cartons, but never save any up.
I have about 5 or 6 jiffy starting trays that I bought a bunch of years ago and usually use them. This year I am only going to start about 35 seeds, so I bought a box of 5oz Dixie cups to use. They will have a little more soil around them than in the trays, less root bound at 6 weeks.
I do not have a plan yet for growing any hot peppers, but may grow some for kicks. I thought about a Texas prepper green house just for peppers, where I can raise them up to a height that I can reach, rather than ground level.
As I age, the ground just gets farther away. I need a raised bed, raised about 24”-30”

I found a recipe for an artisan bread that you can bake in a crock-pot. When the bread bin gets low on the store bought stuff, I may just try it out.
I have a bunch of egg cartons, but I’d rather use the 5 oz dixie cups, since they allow more growing space before transplanting.

I am usually kinda leaning toward the old faithful recipes of my Granny, but crockpot is one of my main fix it and forget it methods. Now and again, I get adventurous with it.LOL
Here’s a link for various locations in Ohio from Victory Seeds. It also has some other useful info:

Very lovely loaf.

Got to get out in this cold to go to lab at dr’s office. Yuck.
I need to start seeds in the next few days, but I dont have my incubator set up yet, and no other way to keep them warm. Guess I got to get busy.
It’s 41 here now. We really went into cold from where it was yesterday as that as sunny and warm.
57 warm and sunny outside at 12:20. Gotta get out and enjoy it or get something done, too nice to stay in the cabin.
You won't get amy restraint from this quarter! Go get'm! :)
Tim's Asian Market.
I love Tim's! I bought some frozen durian there one time just to freak out the neighbors! I usually get my kimchee base there too.
Rainbow Gardens on Rte 16 (Bandera Rd) by Tezel/Prue has a lot of seeds and some of the hardier plants like rosemary and creeping onion. They should be receiving more in the middle of March.
That’s where I bought the Ghost Pepper seeds that I posted about upthread.
Pretty popular! :)
Daughter gave me her old tablet, and I'm thinking about writing a garden application for Android.
I wonder how many freeper gardeners have Android tablets?

Do you mind sharing your crockpot bread recipe? With my work schedule, I live out of my crockpot.
“I’m thinking about writing a garden application for Android.”
I’ve forgotten which planet Andrioid is from. :o)
It’s not my recipe. I ran across it on the web. Here’s the link for the crockpot instructions. Down the page there is a link for their standard recipe, as well as links to books for sale.

We had a nice day today. Sunshine, and high 40’s most of the day. Now down to freezing again.
Went out to get in the car to go to town, and the new battery was deader than a doornail. I checked all the lights and doors, and couldn’t find anything that was left on. Hubby is going to take a look tomorrow.
He actually got to pour some concrete today, so he didn’t get home till after dark.
All I have is my dinasaur computer from Dell/Walmart. I am techno challenged.lol
