Former NFL quarterback Trent Dilfer, who starred at Fresno State and won a Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens, said Tim Tebow was one of the best quarterbacks in college football without even knowing how to throw a football properly.
Now, according to Dilfer, Tebow can throw the football like an NFL quarterback and deserves a shot on an NFL roster. He predicted that Tebow would eventually make an NFL roster again.
In a segment for ESPN, Dilfer said that Tebow wanted Dilfer to give him an objective evaluation. Dilfer went to USC's campus and profiled Tebow's intense devotion to bettering himself as a quarterback. Tebow spent 10 hours a day for six days a week training. And he did that for five months to make himself a better quarterback.

They said Bobby Layne’s passes looked like wounded ducks at times, but all the guy did was win.
I will say improving mechanics is one thing....but the most important skill for a quarterback is reading defenses.....You can have a rocket of an arm, and be the most accurate passer ever, but without that skill, you can’t make it as a quarterback. And the pro game is light years faster than the college game. In college you play against at most 1 or 2 NFL-quality players, in the NFL every single guy on the other side of the ball is better than almost anyone you played against in college. Things you could get away with in college, won’t work in the NFL...And that’s why so many great college QBs cannot make the transition to the pros.
“Jeff George!”
I was thinking Todd Blacklidge....ouch
I know what you mean. Vince Lombardi, Bear Bryant, John Madden, Bobby Bowden were all such lousy NFL players & physical specimens. How could they judge a quarterback's potential? /s
“On the other hand, 3 organizations including 2 that Id consider quite competent (sorry Jets), have passed on Tebow, including one that is run by a HOF quarterback, and one that is run by a sure thing HOF coach.”
Well, one organization and HOF QB would be John Elway and the Broncos. But they got rid of tebow because they got Peyton Manning instead, so that does not count.
And then we have the case of NBA Jeremy Lin whom the entire league passed on including the Houston Rockets who cut him before signing him again after Linsanity.
There are probably 100000 guys with the athletic ability to play NFL QB but only 10000 with the mental ability and maybe only 100 with the right fit for a team and then only 5-6 with the intangibles that separate tom brady from tony romo (I think Romo has more athleticism, but brady has the proper team fit and the intangibles.)
And Brady didn’t even start at Michigan for most of his career there.
Oh, my! I would equate Blackledge with the “ouch”.
Given the difficulty that the Jags have at QB, not to mention filling Everbank Field on Sunday afternoons, they really do need to re-consider providing him an opportunity to play.
It is for sure that he has the 99% perspiration/inspiration part well in hand!
Jags could use some of that level of commitment!
I’d love to see him play pro football in his home town, and I dare say a lot of other folks here would, too!

See post 21. JG to a ‘T’
The weird thing is that you’d expect that skill could be learned over time. Maybe his problem was being a “starting quarterback”. If he was looked at more as a rookie who needs to be “brought along” maybe he’d end up being great somewhere.
Not so fast.
Consider Grossman (2003 - 2013, 2014 and on going?).
Ta Da!
Tebow already has a better playoff record than Romo.
If Tebow has fixed his passing mechanics, he should try to get on with a CFL team and work his way back into the NFL. I love his attitude.
Well, at least we’re sitting around talking about Tim and his skills instead of talking about how his Christianity got him blackballed (which of course it did not).
Sorry, Tony might have a cracked rib, or sore toe, or............
Yeah, but can Tebow complete that patented Romo pass to the other team in the final minute!
Looks like Romo sold the patent to Kyle Orton.
Sounds as though he may be overtraining.
Agreed. He is better than half the QB’s in the NFL. He has been blackballed and the Jets took one for the NFL. He could have been the starter for several of the Playoff Teams. The guy will draw fans and generate excitement where ever he goes. Jags don’t even want him? Says something about the NFL.
NFL is all about making money and BETTING. Maybe Tebow won’t play the game as instructed. That win streak in Denver looked really good. Now the league talking point is Big QB class coming out. So what. Meanwhile, an NFL star was fined $50K for not talking to the media “enough”. When he answers the gay questions then his career is over. This is all entertainment, all the time. Go TEBOW.
Can he read defenses pre-snap? Can he get the ball out to the right receiver no more than 2.8 seconds after the snap (1.8 preferred)? Those were his big weaknesses, that’s what needs to be fixed.
