Free Republic | Dec. 27, 2013 | greeneyes

Posted on 12/27/2013 12:25:05 PM PST by greeneyes

The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.

I have watched several of his videos lately. Another features his misting system in his greenhouse.

Whose youtubes? Are you talking about TexasPrepper's youtubes? If so, I haven't watched the misting one, but I do plan to work in my greenhouse today..It was 95 in there yesterday when I remembered I needed to open the window in it.

He does a good video on drip irrigation 101, plus the misters are just $1.25 plug ins for drip mainline that he ran into the green house.

We have wild blackberries that are all up and down our driveway, but that’s about it. I don’t do anything to them, except to keep them from overgrowing and scratching our vehicles.

“We have a few onions doing the same...”

I have several onions in the fridge veggie crisper drawer that have grown green stalks. I didn’t know whether to throw them out or plant them. Guess I can put them in pots and see what happens. Are you going to do that?

The mailman just brought my Tycoon tomato seeds. I wonder when the “big box” stores will be putting seed oacjets out. I need a yellow tomato, a Marcella Tromboncino, and I think I’m good to go.

Yes, I am going to experiment and try it. Mine may be too far gone.

Well, I go to sleep, and wake up 1 to 3 hours later, and can’t go back to sleep. So I call it an unintentional nap.

In reality we think it’s some sort of bio rythem thing that is out of synch with the rest of the world.

Last night, I managed to stay awake, and tried to go to bed at 11 pm. I did not sleep until 5am. Hence begins the delayed sleep cycle. Eventually I’ll get into a pattern of sleeping from 2:30 am to 5:30 am, 7am to 11 am, and somethime a short nap of about an hour in the late afternoon and early evening. This will last about a week, and then gradually change until I get back to the up all night cycle.

It’s weird.

I am on the computer too much period. Always researching something, or doing budgets, searching for sales, etc etc.

My sleeping habits have changed quite a bit in the last 6-7 years or so. I spend a lot of the night reading.

Here's a ping on hydroponics that Johnny alerted me to read. Pretty interesting stuff. I'll stick to dirt, but knowledge is valuable whatever the method.

Can’t do much reading, especially at night. It makes my eyes hurt, and I get headaches.

To: greeneyes; Errant
Errant, your thread got a mention on the weekly gardening thread. I'd love for you to keep us updated on your hydroponics experiments and maybe include some photos.

This weekly thread is for all things plant related, even if there are some of us that are old fashioned about growing stuff in dirt. ;)
