I volunteer at Jill's House, a ministry that provides overnight care for children and teens with special needs. I've noticed that the older Down Syndrome teens love those portable DVD players and love DVD’s geared for pre-schoolers. You might check to see if she has one. They run about $100 and if she has one — I'd suggest some DVD’s. I remember one of the guests there especially loved Teletubbies.

Male or female? If a female, all women love pretties. Get her a pretty shirt or sweater. If a male, a warm stocking cap or pro team sweatshirt.

Had a sister with Downs. She loved music, and was told that many do. Try a MP3 player, they are not that expensive. Load it with Christmas music and include some earbuds. God bless you for caring.

If you're looking for something to do on a computer this its it. There is a really good computer game that teaches math and logic concepts without the player realizing it is a learning experience. It's good for young and old.P>
It's called A Logical Journey of the Zoombinis. My grown up daughter tells me the original Broderbund version that ran on older Windows systems was better than the newer Learning Company version.

My daughter who works with these people suggests adult modeling clay or art supplies.

Music is one of the things I’ve researched they like. I ordered an inexpensive “iPod Shuffle” and downloaded my wife’s 239 purchased country music songs on it, we think she likes that music.
Actually a very expensive gift @ $1.29 a song but it’s free now on whatever player we put it on and this iPod is only $40 so if she loses it we can replace it inexpensively.
I was looking for an additional present just so she has other things to unrap.

I second the art supply suggestion — sticker books, coloring books, pad of plain white paper, new crayons, and new markers! Lots to open and fairly inexpensive for you. Have fun!

When I find out more about her, if she has that capacity, I’ll look into it, Thanks.

Art supply I’ve read about too. Maybe next year.
First time we are meeting her Wednesday so we don’t know what her low capacity is capable of.

Something to snuggle with, like a Teddy bear or a doll.

My sister (age 47) who has DS, cerebral palsy and autism loves movie musicals. She has a portable DVD player and her favorites are The Sound of Music, The Music Man and My Fair Lady. Her attention span is incredible, she never gets bored with them. (I've synced them all to a 360GB video iPod, but that was very pricey!)
But truly, a loving welcome to your home is the best gift of all. DS folks love hugs!

Music is good.An MP3 can be purchased for $25 to $30. Songs cost more. Maybe an AM FM Radio with a headset. Perhaps a small box of Ferro Rocher chocolates would be good. (Hard candy rots the teeth.) I bought some at Aldi.

her favorites are The Sound of Music, The Music Man and My Fair Lady. Mine too! My dad's too!
Hugs?
OK, I'll do my best. Ugh...
Not because of the DS, just me.

All pizza places sell gift cards.
I have a DS son, age 41. He and his wife would be very happy eating pizza 7 nights per week.

A gift. Unconditional love and the the knowledge that all people, even those with handicaps, can provide love and be a source of inspiration and happiness.
