Strip club sweep nets fake fan gear

Brockton cops and Homeland Security raided a strip club authorities say was peddling fake Red Sox and Patriots gear in exchange for lap dances and seized the counterfeit goods — part of a growing problem that one expert says is not necessarily a victimless crime.

Employees at the Foxy Lady Brockton were wearing some of the knock-off sports teams shirts when investigators showed up for the strip club sweep Friday afternoon and found about $10,000 worth of counterfeit gear, said Brockton police Lt. Paul Bonanca.

“We seized various boxes of sports shirts,” Bonanca said. “The same jerseys sometimes sell for $200 at the store.”

Upon close inspection, it turns out some of the performers also had ‘counterfeit goods’.

However, no charges were filed.

Wait, typically (or so I've heard) in strip clubs the customers give money for lap dances from the girls. So does this mean the girls gave lapdances in exchange for fake shirts? Or was the place offering customers free shirts with purchase of a lapdance? Either way this place sounds awesome.

Not exactly. The club was selling them or giving them away as souvenirs. Not exchanging them for lap dances. I strongly suspect the club and dancers want money for their services, not fake jerseys.

Plan A: “Lap dance, get your lap dance!”

No sale.

Plan B: “Get your Tom Brady shirt, get your Tom Brady shirt. You can even see a stripper.”

It’s the dance club version of Black Friday.

Oh my! I will be able to sleep easy tonight knowing that the invasive problem of counterfeit sports gear has been solved.

I guess all of the other crimes have been resolved(IRS, NSA, Benghazi, F&F).

Another government agency retasked to providing mafia-like muscle for corporations instead of doing its job. Smells like the Gibson guitar raid all over again.

“HOME LAND SECURITY”? What the hell does homeland security have to do with this issue. I’m sure the clothing was no threat to this nations security. Guess they needed some bogus claim to practice their tactics. Next thing you know they will do the same thing with banks and “legally” take all the money. (Isn’t that considered bank robbery?)

And one more thing - a glaring example of government overreach. Since when does it make sense for the Federal Homeland Security Department to be spending taxpayer's dollars aiding a group of wealthy businessmen to increase their profits. This case looks like an example of trademark infringement, which is a civil cause of action. Let Mr. Kraft hire his own lawyers instead of making the rest of us pay for them.

DHS should be protecting us from terrorists, like the Tsarnev brothers. Maybe the reason DHS was too busy to follow up on the Russian reports of their terrorist activities was that they were all at the Foxy Lady in Brockton checking out the T shirts on the employees. Just to make sure they didn't have counterfeit logos.

That was my first thought. It’s to get the people used to seeing them in our daily lives. I can just see them stacked outside the door in their black ‘obey me’ BDUs.

This is a modern day American morality tale. It portrays the decadence and decay now permeating American culture. The only thing missing was now the cops in Massachusetts are likely to have more than a few homosexuals in their midst with subplots of their own.

Plus, it is so difficult to get volunteers to go on a topless bar raid.

Exactly. It is not a case for homeland security. Buncha thugs.

Homeland security has no business enforcing copyright or trademark issues. This is all driven by big business, the various agencies are simply the enforcers. Use to be a large flea market near me where some vendors sold counterfeit good. Was there one day and it looked like every agency in Pennsylvania defended upon them. When I asked one of the ATF agents why there are not busting the vendors with drug paraphnilia he had an attitude. The real reason is that big business was not loosing money on the bong sales.

Good thing the strip club wasn't selling fake Disney merchandise. The Defense Department would have been called in and attack drone used for the opening strike.

Bingo! I mean really; Homeland Security is involved in a crackdown on counterfeit team merchandise? Is that a security threat to the nation? We're not even talking counterfeit currency here. *Sheesh*
