What's the one best NEW book you've read this year?

With so many books published every year, it's easy to somehow overlook a really good one, one definitely worth reading. With that in mind, and given that FReepers are, for the most part, extensive readers, I'm curious as to what's the best NEW book published in 2013 that you've read.

So her Coolidge book is good? I was a little disappointed in “ The Forgotten Man”

I took our own FReeper Travis McGee up on his offer of a free book on Kindle. I think CASTIGO CAY is a great read especially when it’s so dang cold here.

It gave me insight into Coolidge the man and Coolidge the president, the times in which he lived, his underlying philosophy, how he worked toward his goals, and the battles and pressures he faced.

Non-Fiction: David vs. Goliath - Malcolm Gladwell. Gladwell’s a liberal, but he thinks weird. He’s not overt about shoving his politics down your throat (although this book was a little more so) and I like the way his eccentric mind works.

Fiction: The Host - Stephanie Meyer. (I’m a middle aged guy, I like the story. Sue me. Also, this book might be a tad bit older than new this year. P.S. I liked the movie, too.)

So far I’ve had very little time reading. I’m enjoying “Enemies Foreign and Domestic” but due to time constraints I’m making a snail’s pace through a good read.

Clancy hasn’t written a word since his first two books.

They’re ghostwritten, by committee.

I’ve even met one of his ghostwriters. He writes for several “famous” names for fat fees, and is an excellent plotter.

The First Freedoms - Church and State in America to the Passage of the 1st Amendment by Thomas J. Curry

Written in 1986, but new for me. Important for we Americans, especially those whose states have gone homomarriage, to understand that the battle is really a 1st Amendmend one. This presents the varying and evolving interpretations, church by church, colony by colony, from the 1600s up to Reconstruction.

Dan Brown - INFERNO - fiction

I concur. It's real excellent story telling with a lot of information about where the global situation is going. Even though it's fiction, I trust Dan Brown's facts and like his interpretation of it all, in all of his books.

I went to a buffalo jump in Havre, Montana a couple of years ago. If you ever fell for the line that native Americans used every part of the animal, there is layer after layer of buffalo bones that were not used. Thanks for the recommendation, I think I will pick that one up.
