The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.

“And Burpee has free shipping on all orders right now.”

I had to reorder peppers and got them there so got that free shipping. That is a deal for all you who may want either one of the peas. They also have their variety of the non-hot jalapeno. It is called, “Born to be Mild Hybrid”.

They also have their variety of the non-hot jalapeno.....Why? Just eat grass.

I buy bottles of non-hot jalapeno slices all the time - the great flavor is there but they don’t burn. It’s a matter of choice - what you prefer. Last year, by the time I found such seeds, they were all sold out. There is a reason for their being sold out - people like them and I am one of those people.

Interesting new pea. I don’t usually grow peas, but that sounds pretty neat.

Hope you had a good Christmas. We had warmer than usual temps today, and Christmas was pretty nice weather too. We didn’t have any ice storm to deal with this year during Christmas.

There are a lot of different kinds of basil, and they have somewhat different flavor. If you have the seeds, go ahead and plant some of each. See which you like best, or maybe you’ll want to continue to grow both.

Basil is so easy, I would not buy plants, I would just plant the seeds.

We had a warming trend after this. Wound up pretty nice especially today. Just needed a light jacket this afternoon, when I took out the trash, and dumped some kitchen trimmings onto the compost pile.

You could also dehydrate some celery. That would be great in soups and stews.

I know I have asked you before, but once more...where did you order the trombone squash from?

You were in my neighborhood, just a few miles apart, by air. Right in the middle of a rain forest. We’ll be making another trip up that way, maybe next year. Hopefully we’ll go early enough to take advantage of some of the wild berries.
Think what you could do with those 80,000 eggs shells today.
