An eyewitness said: "He told her she already had enough shoes, more shoes that she could wear in a lifetime, and it was pointless buying any more. She started shouting at him, accusing him of being a skinflint, and of spoiling Christmas. It was a really heated argument."
The argument continued until Hsiao threw the bags on the floor and himself over the balcony, dropping seven stories to his death and smashing Christmas decorations on the way down.

I could see if it was his wife but taking a 7 story leap for a girlfriend is retarded.

Not sure about China, but they do have Christmas in Japan.
Well a version of it anyway since it has been separated from any religious meaning while keeping everything else. Sort of what the left would like to do here.
As it happens Japan has a national holiday on December 23rd and Christmas sort of just got attached to it. They have trees and gifts and shopping...

He was just looking for a reason to do it, even a bad reason. “Now (he thought) everyone will blame her for my death, that’ll show her!”

You and me both. My ex made me crazy. If we’d stayed married one more day, I think I’d have made the news too.

She started shouting at him, accusing him of being a skinflint, and of spoiling Christmas. It was a really heated argument. Translation: she was shopping with HIS credit card, and her spendthrift obsession was more than he could afford.
If he married her, she would spend until he was out of money, divorce him, and marry somebody else (in China, women are now a scarce commodity). If he didn't marry her, his options for ever getting a woman in his bed were limited.
I would have walked away (with my credit cards) and gone home.

I will admit that Mr. Bear has had to pull me out of book stores and away from the animal adoption center at the pet supply store but why would anyone need more then five pairs of shoes?

I'll tell you what this is about.
Thanks to the ChiCom "one child" policy, there are one hundred million more men than women in China.
When it comes to romance, women who managed to not get aborted or left to die in a field as infants or starve in an orphanage are in the driver's seat.
This woman was Hell-on-wheels, but she was his only hope, and he decided it wasn't worth it.
Ain't ZPG grand?
