It is not easy to find a doctor who takes Medicare in our area. When we found one that did, mom accepted him, no questions asked, based on his sweet, smiling demeanor. I was not so easily convinced. Call me from the Show Me State if youd like.
We arrived for our dual appointments - there was nobody in the waiting room so we waited just a few minutes before we were taken to the same examining room. The nurse came, very polite, took our information on her laptop and left, and we waited and waited. Finally, moms favorite smiling doctor showed up with his laptop in tow.

And the media will report this how? If a tree falls in the forest.......
I get a paper cut? Lower the flags.
It would be interesting to see what those of us who only have Part A are costing for our coverage.
Hey, what’s 3 weeks? Besides, if it isn’t getting paid for, why should he order it. But then again, does he get a kick back for ordering it? Would the earliest appointment be after the first of the year? Are we sure he even really knows what’s in the “law”?
When peoples’ parents and children start dropping like flies because of lack of proper medical care, that they know exists, because of ZeroCare’s medieval rules, there will be hell to pay.............
Obamacare hasn’t really kicked in yet.
Looks like the real problem for the writer is the doctor, who is clearly horrible and they should NOT go back to him.
I have no doubt that doctors are already pressured and will be more pressured to deny tests to the patients, but what the author and her Mother went through should not be happening at this point — maybe later. :(
Not to mention the airfare to Costa Rica of Southern Mexico to get quality medical care. Pretty sad. If a doc had the funds, it might not be a bad time to become a practicing medpat someplace else.
We had to fight to keep her in the hospital. She was there a week, but only started getting really bad on Tuesday.
The doctor said there used to be 12 criteria he could use to over-ride the insurance companies on discharging a patient. After Obama care, there's only one - Is the pain manageable?
Mom was on a morphine IV, and if sent to a nursing home she would have probably had to get the morphine either orally or in a suppository. (Administered by minimum wage folks, some of who would be temped to steal it.)
Thankfully, the Lord took her before she was discharged, which would have been fairly soon. When WE get old, we're screwed.
Medicare should not be charity medicine (except if you’re SSI). Rather, you should be able to supplement the amount Medicare provides with your own money and buy a “richer” health insurance plan. There should be a difference between benefits you have a right to by reason of paying taxes when you’re are or were working age and able-bodied, from the benefits you receive by reason of the generosity of the taxpayers of this country.
Medicine is getting to be more and more like treating a bunch of cattle - in other words, just like animals.
It’s not the individual that counts and treating a person “uniquely” - but it’s that “system” that counts and is more important - and the “animals” simply have to fit into the system.
Condolences and prayers for the loss of your Mom. Mine will be 99 in Feb and so far she’s okay physically. She just doesn’t know who we are but she’s happy in her own little world. We know it’s coming, just not when.
They loved it in the 80’s & 90’s where 70 million boomers were pouring money into the coffers. That’s when Medicade and Medicare grew. Now what? Boomers are the enemy. There are still millions of Boomers working. They’re gonna miss us.
That could be an argument for assisted suicide - per the patient’s wishes.
Good point, sorry. Although I do believe that so far, the vast majority of Obamacare enrollees are doing so under medicade.
Here’s an important question thought...
As has been mentioned many rimes before, Obamacare will be expanding the rolls of health insurance, adding many millions to the masses already seeking health care. And contrary to what Barky says, having health insurance is NOT the same as having access to health care!
Obamacare is also cutting medicare reimbursements to the health care providers, so there are fewer and fewer doctors willing to take on medicare (or medicade) patients, making the doctor shortage even worse.
How long until the government declares a medical “Directive 10-289,” by the federal government putting pressure on the state medical licensing boards to suspend the licenses of doctors who refuse to take on these medicare and/or medicade patients?
Effectively conscripting doctors into federal service. And I’m also thinking there’s going to be a huge increase of the medical equivalent of H1-B visas, to import low cost, third world medical providers into the US to provide services that American providers can’t or wont provide.

You hang in there Slump Tester. I lost my mother a couple years ago now, because she got out of the house and was picked up by the sheriff’s office. I had a safety bar, but I hadn’t started putting it onto the door. Social Services determined my home wasn’t sufficient for her needs. So, it was to a nursing home, and back and back to the hospital. My mother’s preference was to pass away at home. She too was totally ready to go to heaven and join those who had gone on before her. They lost her DNR. Twice they brought her back after heart failures. The third time, they tried yet again. Between #2 and #3, she lost all memory of me or her other children. I could see her questioning “why” in her eyes. I have no problem with pain relief. I figure if quality of life comes to mean a bed pan and a remote, it’s o.k. But, during the time I had my mother in my house, I could bring her to my family physician. Then, I was bringing her to a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist got an MRI of her brain. We looked at it together. We talked about options, mostly the options were to prevent further deterioration and to enjoy each day. My mother was very thankful for each day. See noticed clouds and stars and a rabbit in the back yard. It was a blessing to take care of her. The commandment to honor your father and your mother is not just about obeying them when you are a minor, it is about caring for them in their old age. But, the socialists want to replace the families God intended us to be part of with the government. The government will take care of us from cradle to grave. From what you say, it appears to me that you have done well on the test that is this life.
I’ve saved a copy but I haven’t mastered the html rules to post it on FR.
