Poor Matt Lauer and Al Roker: they spent November growing out beards on NBC for Movember, to promote men's health, but the British magazine New Statesman has announced Movember is divisive, gender normative, racist and ineffective against some very real health issues.
RedStates Erick Erickson tweeted You cannot parody the left. You just can't. You may think it is parody, but damned if they don't one up you. Apparently moustaches are for minorities:
So what message does Movember convey to those whose moustaches are more-or-less permanent features? With large numbers of minority-ethnic menfor instance Kurds, Indians, Mexicanssporting moustaches as a cultural or religious signifier, Movember reinforces the othering of foreigners by the generally clean-shaven, white majority. Imagine a charity event that required its participants to wear dreadlocks or a sari for one month to raise fundsit would rightly be seen as unforgivably racist.
Arianne Shahvisi writes its also unfair to trans men who cant grow moustaches well:
Further, the inclusivity of Movember deserves examination. For one, only men (and even then, only some men) can grow a moustache. The decision to focus on the moustache to raise awareness of men's health issues might seem like an apposite one (though there's no obvious relationship between moustaches and cancers), but it reinforces the regressive idea that masculinity is about body chemistry rather than gender identity, and marginalises groups of men who may struggle to grow facial hair, such as trans-men.
She concludes:
One of the Movember mantras is: Real men, growing real moustaches, talking about real issues. The slogan is as misguided as its campaign: Movember is divisive and gender normative, not least because it centres on the notion that there is such a thing as a real man; it is racist, inasmuch as it steamrollers over the cultural significance of the moustache (and thereby ignores what the campaign means for the men who really have moustaches); and it is non-optimal, because it does not tacklein fact it only compoundsthe very real health issues that hurt the men we love.
Wow. Pinging for later ridicule.
In that case, liberal and leftists must despise Karl Marx, Fidel Castro, Vladimir Lenin, John Dewey, Edward Bellamy, Jerry Rubin, etc.
Arianne Shahvisi is get this....an assistant professor at The “American” University of Beirut, looks like she might be Muslim (maybe Hindu), and is a “reporter” (blogger) for www.newstatesman.com. Anyone else see the rich irony here? Probably working for another one of those faux conservative propaganda sites.

Good.
I am a Heterosexual White Male with a goatee and a mustache. Gun owning, weight lifting, muscle car hobbyist, viola playing, computer nerd.
Probably will be until I die too.
I make no apologies and think bitter b*tches, like the waste of estrogen that wrote the original screed, need to just get a life.
Idiocracy has come to pass.
This article proves that we are into the “sequel stage”.
“Idiocracy Too: It Gets Even Worse”
Oh, I SEE!
It's the same “thinking” that lead to the EPA calling CO2 a toxin. Everything you do causes CO2 to emit, therefore anytime anyone does anything, they are making the Sun scorch the Earth!
Yikes!
Genius has a limit: Stupidity is unlimited
Still waiting for the left to point out that a certain race voted damn near exclusively for Obama. Twice. Such a voting pattern doesn’t mate to the typical left/right split in this country so it must be..... wassssis!
Letssee, IOW, some men don’t have the necessary amount of testosterone nor the requisite sizable equipment to facilitate beard growth; thus it’s hurtful and not inclusive to all men, including womyn and eunuchs. That about right?
I guess Boston is now racist, sexist, homophobic and transphobic.
The LGBT metrosexual crowd can’t stand being around real heterosexual men that they can’t recruit into their perverse lifestyle. They have to resort to alinsky style tactics to denigrate and ridicule anyone who won’t accept them or their perverse ways. The only thing that will result from that approach is some terrible retaliation when the heterosexual majority reach to breaking point. When that happens, political correctness goes out the window, and the homosexual crowd better run back into the closet.
Me neither. If I suspect someone is a leftist, I throw out some bait. If it gets a nibble, and my suspicions are confirmed, I just go ahead and declare war, and begin gently shredding their psyche.
Old people have to figure out new ways to entertain themselves. The good fishing spots are just too hard to get to anymore.
I shaved mine off for a promotion board once in 1975.
Do breast cancer awareness slogans discriminate the less endowed?
Words are gendered. People are sexed.
Applying grammatical categories to people is illogical and is meant to cause confusion.
Sorry. While you are correct, the language has evolved. Gender=sex in American English as spoken in the 21st century. Annoying, I know, but there it is.
so walter white was racist?
It's obfuscatory newspeak.
"Undocumented workers" is 21st century English for "illegal immigrants" but I'm not going to start calling them "undocumented workers."
I recently grew some facial hair. As my wife puts it, I was aiming for Clay Morrow and hit Colonel Sanders. Then I wanted to try a Duck Dynasty beard but she said no way and I won’t be allowed in bed with one. How does Phil Robertson get away with it?
