The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.
Walmart on Black Friday? Your mother is braver than I am! Hope she had fun.
I’ve just now gotten the last of the tomatoes canned. I’ve been waiting for a day when I could have the kitchen to myself. Sure enough, as soon as I started somebody came home and started crowding me out. I managed, but I had to make a big dinner for everybody, too, just so I could have my space.
My plantar fascitis has been killing me the last few days. Being on my feet all day is just what I needed!
*whimper*
Thanks for the thread
That sounds lovely!
Son and his bride live in Seattle and they are outdoors people.
This seemed to make more sense to us vs. shopping.
I saw that you had one so I had to be a copycat lol!
I love being outdoors. I’ll take it any day over going to a mall.
btw, we've been getting garden catalogs awfully early and, even though we just recently cleaned out our raised beds, the seed starting bug has bitten.
I think we'll stick to more traditional tomatoes and peppers next year; stuff we can use everyday.
From three plants, I have enough ground paprika powder to last several years.
Yes, I’m definitely going with the tried and true this coming season. We did have some luck with our Cherokee Purple tomatoes last summer, but not as much with our Brandywine. Our yellow hot peppers were all right, but we missed having jalapenos. Rosemary is a sure thing this season as well.
We have a sage plant in one of our deck planters that has somehow survived the last few winters. Container planting seems to be working best for us lately, so that’s a consideration when I’m ordering seeds. Grilling is an option as long as the deck isn’t too deep in snow and the temperature isn’t too low. We also have a smoker that we use during spring, summer and fall.
Hello. First time poster here. Any recommendations for dent corn for home-gardening? I’ve tried “Bloody Butcher” in the past. Bought an inexpensive grain mill and enjoy making my own corn-meal for corn bread. Thanks in advance.
So sorry. I had intended to send Johnny a freep mail to let him know that I might be delayed, and ask if he would post for me, if I didn't get done in time.
This was the only day that I could get my eyes checked prior to my Doctor's appointment on Monday; I sure did not want to hit the road on black Friday. I almost NEVER go out on black Friday. I was dreading it.
Turns out it wasn't too bad, I guess the big crush was on Thursday night and this AM. It wasn't too crowded, and I even managed to get a space close to the door. I was at the vision center for 5 hours.
Long story short, there were problems with their computers etc. Then I had forgotten about the dilation thing and needing to have a driver or wait. Boy oh Boy, I also forgot that those drops sting like crazy.
Thanks to improvement in my distant vision, my RX has changed again. I am no longer required to wear glasses for driving, yahoo! However, I do see better with glasses, until my right eye improves again.
We had a great Thanksgiving. Lots of food. Surprised my daughter with some home grown rosemary for the turkey. She says it is powerful compared to what she usually gets at the store.
Had some stir fry with homegrown onions and peppers on Wednesday. Still picking some persimmons each day to eat one or two. Nothing beats a fresh one off the tree.LOL
Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving, and will enjoy the weekend. Have a wonderful weekend. God Bless.
I don’t do mornings. Sometimes I just barely get to sleep by 4 or 5 AM. I never go out for sales with the idea of beating the crowd. LOL
During this time of the year, no law is needed. I have to be dragged kicking and screaming, or else have a major responsibility that can’t be delegated. Otherwise, I hibernate till spring or warm weather, whichever comes first. LOL
She asked me why I didn’t just wait till I got home, and I told her that there are some people on the thread that will be worried and disappointed if someone doesn’t post the thread.
I was pretty smug about my home grown rosemary for my turkey too! Hubby got a kick out of me being so proud of something so simple.
Good news on Berkey. Let us know how you like it.
